hmmm well are you SURE you need the cartridge along with the disc to make other regional disks work??
cos my copy didn't have it so i immediately thought that it was missing the cartridge...
but just now i tried it with a region 1 disk and region 3 without the cartridge...and they both worked fine....
i looked at my memory card and there was a new dvd region x file on it....
is the copy i have a newer one than yours??

D'oh, our tv downstairs supports it but I don't think mine does. My video recorder plays import videos on a pal tv just thought region X may do the same.

Yep - pretty certain of it. it's to do with the technology differences - nothing to do with PS2. My dedicated player is the same, if you don't have an NTSC-capable TV.

even if you fiddle round with the settings do you think it'll stay in B&W.

You'd need a converter box.

I'm not 100% sure, but you *may* get colour from NTSC discs if you connect using the composite leads that came with the machine; I've a feeling it may only be B&W through SCART.

Generally, the manual that came with the TV should tell you.
