Consoles all come out, get a good supply of games and we end up playing and finishing them all. After that, a better game comes out. We all wow at its graphics, play it and finish it. Then the companies release a new console which is 'better than the previous consoles.' We all go out and buy them (Or many, many people have to save up for months and months until they finally have enough money to afford it.)We also need to buy more controllers and memory cards.
But when they do have enough money for it, the console is usually getting rather old, and everyone says "been there, seen it, done that." You end up thinking you wasted your money.
We never bother thinking about PC's. Once you have got a decent PC, you will have a HUGE games library to choose a game from. You dont need more memory cards or more controllers, just a mouse, keyboard an maybe a joystick. You can even update your PC, but you cant update a console.
Whats more is that you can do homework on a PC, and not on a console.
Consoles nowadays are being able to go online, but it is very slow and you end up with a huge bill. PC's are fast online and you can control the games better as you have much more buttons and controls.
So whats the choice, a console which will only last a year or two or a PC? I know a PC is much more expensive but it will last longer.
I know what I would choose...
If a Dreamcast plays Quake 3 online (it's slow when browsing because it lacks a hardrive to save previous sites to) then there's no lag.
A PC does it and there's plenty.
Why?
PC's were not designed purely for games.
They've been designed to do lots of things along with games.
This trying to do everything at once slows it down and makes it inefficient.
That's why a console with under half the specs of a PC can still out preform it at games.
And PC's are expensive.
You simply don't buy a PC for games.
You buy a PC as an all round machine - games, work, music and internet browsing and whatever else you like to use it for.
As a stand alone games machine then the console beats it hands down for cost, performance and efficiency.
Does anyone here make Duke 3d levels? I do and I have been wanting to play other peoples levels.
Anyone?
A console lasts 5 years, and costs you about £300, until now they've only been used for games but internet servers have been set up and are now running like PCs.
I like my n64 because the games are made to work on it, my PC is 4 years old and i can't even run Theme Park World on it! my PC has a non-MMX compatable CPU, sheesh. the PC cost me £1500! and hasn't really been updated since we bought it.
I'd rather pay £300 for a console than £1000+ for a PC when they pretty much do the same thing, you can buy a cheap Pc for £400 if you want it for word processing...etc.
+ if it wasn't for consoles most of us wouldn't be here.
Range of games, internet access, other uses, upgrades, blah blah..it just suits me better for what I do. I like FPSs, and big multiplayers (tribes, counter-strike), both of which are better suited to the PC, due to the more accurate level of control and the internet capabilities.
Yes, patches are an issue, but more and more gamers are now getting broadband, at affordable prices - something that's still a way off for the consoles.
Everyone assumes that you have to shell out £1500+ originally and then constantly upgrade to be able to play new games, which is certainly not true. A high spec pc (athlon 1.4ghz, geforce3, 256mb DDR) can be had for around £1000, and will not need updating for a good while yet..
That and all the extra stuff you can do with it, design apps, office suites etc...easy choice for me.
Yes, I do know what I'd choose.
Also consoles are easy to use, you don't have the problem of having to download patches for the games, you buy the game and thats it you dont need to configure the 3d card or anything like that, its just simple put game in and play.
I would go for consoles without a shadow of a doubt.
But what you do need is to make sure that your pc's specs meet the games demands, then install it, repair any problems with that and so on. This is too much hassle for a lot of poeple, and so they go for the console to play games. You also said that online gaming for consoles is slow, its only just really started on the consoles, give it time to improve will you. Consoles will be around for some time to come.
