What a huge disapppointment. It's so ordinary, so gimmicky, so devoid of skill, so boring and so uninspired.

I'm going to write a proper review of this game but I just had to get that off my chest.

It doesn't deserve to have the word 'Nintendo' on its box. If the Gamecube *is* the beginning of the end for Nintendo hardware then crappy, substandard games like this will be just as responsible as crappy, substandard ad campaigns.

PsychoFox, you're defending obvious design flaws. Can you see THROUGH that pile of bombs? No? Then they're obstructing your view.

You are, without doubt, a witless pile of pre-pubescent fanboy mush.

I think you should read the following comment by AfroJoe, who manages to disagree with me without screaming and screaming until he is sick because the nasty man said his game was rubbish:

I seem to recall you criticising Wind Wakers graphics, and one of the reasons was the fact that a branch snapped in an odd way.

Ah well. Opinionns. Odd things eh? Mario Kart DD, Metroid Prime, Eternal Darkness, Zelda: WW and MS. All brilliant.

I'm not going to start slating kernel for his opinion, however it's an opinion that he doesn't share with me.

I feel that Double Dash!! is the best in the Mario Kart series, and once you get playing properly and advance into 150cc it really does become frantic, fast-paced racing, with the added fun element in the form of weaponry. Just like it should be. And multiplayer is just an added bonus. And as you'd expect, it's magnificent. Admittedly, the tracks and battle arenas aren't really up to the standards of the N64 version of the game's (as that game rocked so so so much), but they're still adequate enough, and with four-players, excellent fun.

Personally I couldn't really care if he doesn't like the game, as he's got every right to - we're all unique in opinions. This isn't going to stop me liking the game, however.

2-player Grand Prix are fantastic. The best part of the game.

Hurrah, kindred spirits!

Cheers for the notable vote by the way, Blank: unexpected but, er, well deserved.

It's the same every time. I told them Wind Waker was less than excellent in my opinion, and also mentioned a really annoying bit about a tree branch snapping off. What replies do I get? "You said wind waker was crap cos of a branch". Didn't say it was crap, didn't say it was because of the branch. I'm surprised most of them can read any words at all.

To be fair, my hyperbole had the mercenary aim of winning a game. It didn't work, goddamit.

And the default score is 10, so my impatience and general lack of coordination may have had something to do with it.

Quelle surprise, fanboy reacts to criticism with personal abuse. I have played multiplayer and it's fun but hardly enough to rescue the game. There just doesn't seem to be enough skill involved to keep it interesting: I'd rather play Monkey Target or PES3. And if I want gibbonish button bashing then I'll load up Monkey Fight.

But, yes, my main problem is with the single player, even on 150cc. It's shallow. Too much depends on luck and special items; too little depends on skill. There is nothing that makes you actually *drive* and on most tracks you barely have to steer. Rainbow Road and the Ghost Valley tracks on the SNES actually tested you, the Double Dash tracks don't.

There are little things too, like when the taller characters pick up three mushrooms and stand on the back of the kart juggling them - so you can't actually see what's in front of you. Why did no one stop and think 'hang on, in a racing game that might not be such a good idea'?

It's not a terrible game and I enjoyed it for a while. But it is a distinctly average game and for Nintendo I don't think that's good enough. I bought Edge today and it looks like they agree with me: 5/10.

Still, it's nice to see that the Ninty forum is so receptive to objective criticism.
