Up until recently, the X-Box didn't really get a look in, until I found this snippet from a news article...
"First on the agenda is Soul Calibur 2, sequel to the finest Dreamcast game ever. Seen the Gamecube screenshots? The Xbox ones will be better - miles better, in fact. As of yet, no details are known about which version will be released first, but the Xbox version is sure to kick some serious console behind when launched.
Second to be announced was a new Ridge Racer title - ooh, about time. Ridge Racer Latest Version (tentative title) will hopefully feature the same blistering speeds as previous versions while adding some seriously hot graphics and the series' awesome gameplay into the bargain as well. Just think back to Ridge Racer V on the PS2 and see what it looks like now - imagine a game that looks twice as good and plays twice as good and you're getting somewhere nearer."
Call that hype or bias? Without screenshots to compare, this article has already stated that the X-Box screenshots will be miles better than the Gamecube ones, and invites you to imagine a game that will look and play twice as good as the PS2.
In a way, I'm not fussed, it's nice to see the X-Box start to get GOOD press, but when you consider that source of this snippet of news (Upwire), then I suppose they have to hype everything a little for sales purposes.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has discovered any 'pro X-Box' multi format magazines flying around yet?
In my opinion, Microsoft are just in this for more money, not to increase gamimg pleasure.
And yet again another announcement to make is that X-box is said to not only to have misjudged their Polygon producing specs' but their Mhz. These two 'misjudges' are the first rumours flying about that suggest X-box is already having technical difficulties.
I can't see how X-box will live up to it's hype, to be honest. Gamecube will crush it to pieces with it's original games, stunningly easy developement kit (that has attracted dozens upon dozens of games developers) and terrific graphics.
Thank you. PS2 and Gamecube rule - X-box sucks badly.
Shocktrooper.
;-)
I simply thought that you had a grudge against Nintendo, didn't like the PS2 so plumbed for the Xbox hoping that it would satisfy your needs. ;-D
As for the console war, I don't think that there's quite room for all three.
Nintendo has claimed the quiet part of the room they don't want.
Sony and Microsoft are both targeting the same user and will therefore go head to head.
I wouldn't mind seeing Sony get punched in the face (not a fatal blow or anything really serious).
With the PS2, it adopted the same casual attitude that Nintendo and Sega employed with the Saturn and N64.
It was over hyped and was complacent.
Nintendo and Sega both got punched in the face and went on to learn from their mistakes to produce serious quality consoles (Dreamcast and Gamecube).
I think that Sony needs the same lesson about treating customers with the PS2.
(Expensive, often faulty, overhyped, difficult for programmers to make games for and forced many to rush games to make the release).
I also think Nintendo deserves a kick in the balls for the high pricing of the Gameboy advance games (along with the fact that they're re releasing the old Nes Mario's one at a time in order to make extra profit!!!)
I don't want to see any console rule the market.
That's when prices and competitiveness dies out for good.

Strafex, I may be biased towards the X-Box, but I actually DO think all 3 consoles can co-exist because of both their different consumer targets and the size of the market.
I would hate to see the Gamecube crushed, because then Miyamoto's ideas wouldn't get out into the marketplace to such effect, his influence on games has crossed all formats even though he concentrates on Nintendo titles.
In the same way, I would hate to see Sony knocked out of the marketplace, because again, great titles brought out for the PS2 are quite likely to be ported to the X-Box, and vice versa.
As for bad experiences, my worst ever was with Barbie Race and Ride for the PSX. Nintendo just aren't my cup of tea, in the same way that a lot of the games I like to play wouldn't appeal to many Nintendo fans.
When I poke fun at Nintendo, that's all it is, fun.
On the other hand, there's this certain species of Ninty...
;-)
> Basically, Xbox and GC are easy to make quality titles while for the
> PS2 it's a nightmare to make a half decent one.
No, it's hard to get used to. It's new technology... it will take a while to get used to. Developers (the guys behind Tony Hawks 3) say that once you get used to programming for the PS2 it's a dream.
Granted, the Gamecube is far easier to program for though, no arguments there! ;-)
Hence many devellopers (excluding the ones in Sony's pay) prefering these 2 systems over the PS2.
But most things I read are roughly evened out equally!
The Gamecube will also be in this league, because of the time of release. The PS2, as good as it MIGHT be, isn't quite in the same league. I'd have said it was in the same league as the Dreamcast. PSX + N64 -- DC + PS2 -- GC + X-Box... the PS2 will still steal some sales, but I think it's already becoming more of a Cash Cow than a Star.
The X-Box, overall, looks impressive, and the only reason I put it down is because i'm 100% bias towards Nintendo. If I wasn't so bias, I might take a second look at the X-Box, however, if you notice, the Gamecube and X-Box are getting a lot of the same games - Galleon, SC2, RR6... And with Sega putting more of thier efforts into the GC and X-Box than any other console, we might see a lot of the same sega games on both consoles. If you know what I mean. Sonic on Both - Sega Sports on both.
