As consoles get more powerful, the video game industry has transformed into a visual presentation race. Sony's recent memo to stress graphics over gameplay is just a sign of the changing times."
Report from Nintendojo.
It's true though, isn't it, the real battle will take place on looks, with the casual gamer choosing the console that has the best graphics, assuming that it also has the best games.
Give it another generation or so, and gameplay will again become the main focus for developers, as all those that are there to be converted will have done so, the casual gamers will become more informed or lose interest - the size of the gaming industry makes in unlikely that there will be another generation of 'newbie gamers' that apparently were brought into it by the appeal of the Playstation.
Does anyone think the X-Box will crash as much as normal PCs? my N64 has crashed about 3 times but only because of my own stupid fault mainly + Zelda 1 doesn't run with a Exp pak.
I'm looking forward to the Gamecube but if it's delayed anymore i'll buy a PS2 and Nintendo will have to wait for my hard earned cash.
But unitl then there are still some great N64 games for me to buy Excitebike64, Dinoland....etc, etc..
We've already seen evidence that the PS2 is more than a match visually, so I don't see why Sony should be so concerned as to send out such a letter.
Mind you, it's from a questionable source... Nintendo site an' all... :-)
Gameplay is the most important factor within games but if they don't have graphics worthy of your money you feel cheated or ripped off. I can imagine that games will start taking a long time to programme as DVD games hold a lot of memory, the end product might be good but it could take a long time to fill the space.
As for the (alleged) memo, it's quite sensible. Most people judge games by their graphics these days. Even a few people here say so. The first thing you notice about a game is the graphics and you immediately make a judgement. Of course, there will still be the SCEE and SCEA games which will be corkers in both departments, but most 3rd party games are crap anyway, so maybe Sony wants them to be crap and pretty.
Game: I think Nintendo will do very well, and so will Sony. The two companies aren't really a threat to each other because they're pitching to different markets. Both will do very well.
Well.... not everyone...
I still thik that Nintendo will do quite well... I mean they have Crazy Taxi and loads of other 'all-platform' games that will sell the Gamecube just as much as they'll sell the PS2... okay so the PS2 has much more games at the moment, but i'd have said that Nintendo wil have quite impressive JAP and USA librabries come Dec 25th.
:-D
