It is Creative Assembly's "Rome : Total War" engine (or a modified version of it) that is used on that "Time Commanders" programme isn't it?

FAR deeper than AOE.

And better

and better.

Brilliant games. The feeling over executing a massive amphibious attack into southern Turkey from Cyprus, Crete and Greece and crushing the vile Turkish hordes with stunning blows is unparalleled!

Word of warning though - the discs are delicate. My Medieval one accidentlly fell, causing a minute scratch which messed it up. The install goes to 48% then it jams. Pity.

It's a perfect mixture of turn-based and real-time warfare.

Build structures and armies in turn-based mode a lá Civilisation, then go enter the battlefield with tens of thousands of units, using weather, terrain etc to the best advantage.

Shogun also made an effort to teach the Art of War. SOund tactical advice it was =)

I never played the Shogun and Medieval: Total War games, can someone fill me in on what exactly they were? Similar to AoE I hear?

I can't wait for those big ass castle sieges. Assault ladders, siege towers, boiling oil etc. it's going to be brilliant.

I've seen April as the release, but there isn't an official date yet so who knows? I think we'll see it by summer though, hopefully anyway.
