I'm clueless on what's good and what's not, so would this PC give me a good performace on all the latest games?

My old PC was a 166mhz (1997) and as you can guess, I haven't been able to play games for about 3 years, thus losing touch with how games & PC's have progressed.

It's from Dell.

Here's the spec:-

December 87 intel pentium 4 processor 3.2ghz
Dimension 8300 3.2ghz 800FSB
512 MB (ram) DDR400 dual channel memory
3.5 floppy drive
120gb (7200rpm) 8mb cache IDE hard drive.
Sonic software for DVD/RW + R
8x/2.4 DVD+R/+RW and 16x DVD
18inch Ultra sharp performace flat panel midnight grey monitor
128mb ATI Radeon 9800 PRO graphics card
Creative labs Audigy2 audio card
multimedia kybd, SW DVD and AD995 speakers

How good is this? It's delivered to mine on the 5th Jan 04.

cheers...

When hardware is "OEM" it means it's just the product, and the gubbins that came with it, from the manufacturer itself. The reason why OEM is cheaper is because it doesn't usually have a box or "free software", so to speak, thus making it just the bare essentials.

that is true BUT...

Ive mastered the art of entering high street computer suppliers and asking for a) The OEM versions (they dont come in flashy boxes and have the bare minimum software and manuals, dammit sometimes they come in no boxes (like my audigy2 only came in an anti static bag))

b) Non retail versions, from places like Evesham > these are basically left over components form when they build pc systems in shop...and its all brand new and in perfect condition but without the colourful and bulky packaging...

so there no more excuses!!

You can expect it to show some kind of output on your monitor. Other than that, I couldn't possibly be optimistic to make any predictions.

Thanks for the comprehensive explanation.

I'll report back once It's all installed to see if it's like you say. Not that I doubt it for 1 minute.

- Can anyone else give details on what I can expect with the graphics card?

Cheers.
