I'm clueless on what's good and what's not, so would this PC give me a good performace on all the latest games?

My old PC was a 166mhz (1997) and as you can guess, I haven't been able to play games for about 3 years, thus losing touch with how games & PC's have progressed.

It's from Dell.

Here's the spec:-

December 87 intel pentium 4 processor 3.2ghz
Dimension 8300 3.2ghz 800FSB
512 MB (ram) DDR400 dual channel memory
3.5 floppy drive
120gb (7200rpm) 8mb cache IDE hard drive.
Sonic software for DVD/RW + R
8x/2.4 DVD+R/+RW and 16x DVD
18inch Ultra sharp performace flat panel midnight grey monitor
128mb ATI Radeon 9800 PRO graphics card
Creative labs Audigy2 audio card
multimedia kybd, SW DVD and AD995 speakers

How good is this? It's delivered to mine on the 5th Jan 04.

cheers...

Great spec PC, but how much did you pay for it?

It's only Dell have this tendancy to overprice stuff. Under £1500, I'd say you got a great deal.

Oh and what is Dells fetish with onboard graphics cards anyway? I've seen Dell PC's with P4 3Ghz but with onboard Graphics. There's no logic behind that.

Celerons should go with On bourd graphics, not P4's..

Yep that'll provide wall shaking bass sounds (literally) - although it doesnt really matter where the sub is placed as the bass sound relies less on directional projection than higher frequency sounds...

That big speaker is a subwoofer. It provides the bass effects I think. Best position for it is next to a wall, or between two walls (i.e. a corner).

Just did a search, and it's Altec lancing speakers. Has anyone got these?

What happens with those 5 small speakers - do they hang on the wall? or do they have to *all* be stood up?

Where would be a great idea to put the big one? close to the computer or further away from it? Bare in mind it's for my bedroom which isnt small, but it's not big. Just a regular size bedroom.

If anyone knows?

And lastly, it mentions 'AD995 speakers'

What on earth are they? I take it they are surround sound of some sort.

Anyone got speakers like this?

Cheers.
