What a crap title. My worst ever. Anyway, I'm getting a new PC very soon indeed, and will order one tomorrow unless my internet connection doesn't work again. And my question to all of you is: what's the best equipment at the moment for a PC? And no, I don't want bias towards SR or anything, mentioning only those that are in the Mag - I would like you to inform of the most recent specs. I'm getting a P4 PC, if that helps. If you have any info, or any URLs which can be helpful, please post here. I want the best motherboard, sound card, HD, everything!

My PC has 128mb (updated from 64 about 2 months ago) of ram, about 500mhz, Pentium 2 proccessor and an STB Velocity 128 Graphics card-which won't even run Black and White.

I also have no AGP slots with which to fit a new one. Ah well.

I'm sure developers will soon take advantage of the P4's

For cost the Kyro 2 is the best. It runs almost as quick as the Geforce 3 but has better antialiasing, all for less than £100. What more could you ask for??

Personally , I think the glasses that I've just bought are the best specs ever.

Athlons win every time, at the moment they actually run faster than P4s. This may change later when software is written for the P4, but they said that about MMX and I never really saw much difference over normally Pentium CPUs. If your going for an athlon make sure you get a case with a 300W power supply in it though, and by the way, the P4 does indeed need it's own kind of case so that's another extra cost on top of the RAM, Mobo and of course the actual CPU.

Sound Blaster 1024 Sound Card
Voodoo 3 2000 (saving up for a GeForce 3 though)

It works great, the only thing wrong is it needs a new graphics card.

So Athlon wins for price, and P4's power isn't really needed? Gotcha. Athlon it is. Phew, that knocks hundreds off my total.
