250. Yes, 250. Please, don't laugh. I think there's a problem:

My (relevent) system is:

333mhz K-6 2
Voodoo 5 5000 PCI
128mb RAM

I was using 3Dmark2001 at 1024x768 32bit.

I think there's something up. No way can the score be that low. Can someone give me some advice? If you need any info I have SiSoft Sandra 99.

I do have one theory though. The 3DFX card has a couple of large chips on it with fans. These fan are less than a cm away from another component. About 5mm max. Could this be slowing down the card?

Sorry for being presumptious there m8. Your best bet then is to checkout Madonion to see if your results are bad or not.
If it does show up as bad, compared to similar cpus and video cards, maybe we can find some good guides for helping you get the most outa your setup.

Cheers

Hello there.
Funny how a thread soon goes off topic :o) Just like the the techy forum I frequent. Tis the way of things I guess.

Have you tried sending your score to Madonion so you can compare it to other peoples scores? Although it does seem low, you may find your setup is ok and is not designed for 3DMark2001. It is a highly demanding benchmark.

I've had a look around Madonion and your processor is likely to be the problem. K6 - 2 just can't hack it with this benchmark I suspect. Use the ORB at MadOnion and compare you setup, this will give you an idea of whether you can squeeze anymore outa your system or not.

But to be honest, what little you can get will not be noticable.

If you're looking to move up the ladder, you could get an new 1.4 AMD with mobo and DDR ram for around the £250 mark?

Hope that helps.

While I'm here...

I was also getting very low 3d mark scores, suddenly dropped for no apparent reason. I repeatedly reinstalled drivers and tried different settings, but to no avail.

Earlier today, I was installing a new NIC, and noticed a small black thing at the bottom of my case. Closer inspection showed that this was actually my heatsink/fan off of the GeForce2...reattatched it with some thermal coolant and the speeds went up slightly.

I then got the nVidia 12.41 reference drivers for win2k and tried again...when I checked, it turned out that windows had deleted my old detonators when I created a new user profile, and had been using the generic MS OEM drivers that come with windows.

Now back up to 60fps on UT at 1280x1024, high detail...much better =)

Lol..no, not really. We were sitting on a bench, a caravan drove past, I said "caravan", and jess shouted "CAN CAN CARAVAN", for a reason that neither of us ever worked out..

Hmm, maybe I should give her a guiding light then, hmmm?

So, does no one have any other ideas?
