Ok, so what do you think I should do. I have been thinking about getting a PS2 but after looking at some previews for the Gamecube I am starting to think it will be the superior machine, and it is cheaper. Do you think the Gamecube will be a big hit or will it start out promising and fizzle out like the N64 did. Do you think there is any chance there will be a dramatic price cut in the PS2 once the Gamecube comes out. I am really stuck on this. Any opinions would be appreciated.

Wait till November then make a decision.

Perhaps Sony will release the new PS2(with built in harddrives and modems) over here !

Perhaps the GameCube will be great and cheap..

There are two many uncertaintys to risk shelling out cash until you know what happens in the US first!

lol

I think we'll be looking at £45 to £50 per game on the X-Box and the Gamecube next year.

They'll call it 'inflationary pressure' or something.

Worse than that Bonus.

£35 for a 15 year old Nes game you could get for £10 compiled with 3 other first class Mario games.

And the worst of it?

Nintendo will get away with it.
Even I will give in and buy a GBA.

Why?

Because the machine is still seriously addictive and there's no better handheld around.

All the same, most companies are happy with a 5-7% net operating profit. Nintendo's net operating profit is huge compared to most 'normal' companies.

There is a clear and simple reason for that. Pokemon, they milk it and make loads of money. The movies must only cost about a fiver to make.

It's both, just that Dreamcast is getting it in November.

Here's some interesting 'profit' projections to show you how badly Nintendo are doing with those nasty expensive cartridges that they lose so much money on...

Financial projections to March 2002

Sega to make 2 Billion yen profit.
From 189 Billion yen sales.

Profit 1.1%

Sony to make 43 Million yen profit.
From 61 Billion yen sales.

Profit 7%

Nintendo to make 85 Billion yen profit.
From 464 Billion yen sales.

Profit 18.3%

Analysts are basing their projections on similar figures for the fiscal year ending March 2001.

Nintendo make an AWFUL lot of profit, don't they?

Manufacturing the cartridges was dirt cheap, it was the license fees that Nintendo forced everyone to pay that put the prices up.
