Hmm, okay, I was expecting this to be pure summer blockbuster material, but with a nice Tim Burton-tint to it. I also read some dodgy reviews of it, which lead me to believe it was a bit pony. However, any film with monkeys is okay by me.

Best bits:
Countless monkeys (real ones too)
They're all really violent
Tim Roth
Helena Bonham Carter makes one sexy chimp
The ending

Worst bits:
Mark Wahlberg
The beginning
No monkey-on-monkey action
Not being able to figure out which apes are from the WWF
The ending

The one-liners:
'Get out your monkey'
'I'm going to get my chimp'
'Get your stinking hands off me, you damn dirty human!'

Verdict - a monkey-tastic 7/10

As superb as the original POTA is, whenever I think of it now, all I can see is The Simpsons pass take. Apes and Falco - enough said.

I didn't even notice Wahlberg to be honest.

I just sat there going "Monkeys..angry ones in armour..this is the best movie I have ever seen"

Yeah, Marky Mark did just run about and look confused for the entire movie, but Tim Roth owned.
And I loved the teeth chattering when turned on and the ape with a wig and false teeth.

Rubbish story, main character was in danger of giving me splinters, but man....Massive Apes in armour being hostile.

My problem with it was the beginning - after he crash lands, Wahlberg doesn't say anything for about 20 minutes, he just stands around looking moody. If I had just crash landed on a planet full of talking monkeys, I'd probably go mental and start tearing my hair out screaming 'What the Hell's going on!', not just stand around looking like butter wouldn't melt. Walhberg was naffola, the film was ace.

I liked the original. Nice plot, good twist.

From the trailers I've seen of this though, it looks it might be a bit too 'holywood' if you get my meaning.

Happy ending, crusading hero, expensive battle scenes?
Perfectly acceptable if the movie does more than that, but I prefer films that stay away from that sort of thing.

Something to do with my ingrained hatred of all-american action hero films.

I'll be going to see it in a week or two. Fingers crossed I like it as much as you did.

I've never seen all of the original, so I'm not sure.

I just love Tim Burton's movies, and ones about monkeys.
Therefore, this movie rocked.

Some bits weren't amazing, but overall I like this one a lot.
Going to watch it again this week with a mate that refused to watch it until I convinced him it was A+.

Is it, or is it not, better than the original classic?

Ok I thought this movie was 100%, Grade-A class.

Another hit for Burton, I haven't seen a duff film from him yet.
What bits did I like?
The references to the old movie:

"Get your stinking hands of me you damn dirty human"

Charlton Heston saying "Damn them all, damn them all to hell"

Flashes of a couple of Ed Wood movies on the static screen

Tim Roth owns this movie, one mean Ape Overlord.

Loved the plot, the pacing, the apes, Mark Wahlberg, the apes, violent apes and the ending.

More monkeys in movies, especially big angry ones with armour
