It is a sad, sorry state of affairs, the once fantastic Acclaim publishing house is now left, like many other publishers before them, releasing crap for the Playstation.
Acclaim were once a hero to Nintendo and their legions of fans, a western developer that stood beside the ailing company when things turned sour. Turok and the 3 following sequels were all made near enough exclusive to the N64 (bar the GBC and PC versions)... the very popular WWF Attitude was released with an extra mode on the N64 and of course Shadowman was built specifically for the Nintendo system.
Along with Konami, Acclaim were one of the only companies releasing exclusive software for the fantastic but un-realised brilliance of the N64... and one of the only adult companies...
Oh happy days.
Acclaim turned sour. During re-structuring the cool names of Acclaim's inhouse developers (such as Turok developer Iguana) soon became pathetic names based on where they were allocated. Turok Evolution became multi-format... the lack of concentration on the Nintendo system spoilt the series beyond recognition... even though we still felt hope after Turok 3. Burnout enjoyed limited success on Nintendo's system and the failure of Acclaim's now crap franchises cause Acclaim officials to hit out on Nintendo.
This was soon re-tracted, successful sales of the Extreme-G series and Burnout meant Gamecube was still profitable with some games.... just not all and so Acclaim still wish to support the console a bit...
But we don't care anymore.
Despite Burnout being fantastic it's recent sale to EA has meant Acclaim are in a pit of hell... producing dog awful wrestling sims and poor mans adult titles....
Things are getting bad to worse.
How it saddens me, Nintendo lost Konami and Acclaim when trying to appeal to new developers... Nintendo are trying to re-capture ties with Konami but my advice is to leave Acclaim well alone. Unless they can re-capture their glory days the company is very nearly dead and buried... stay in bed with EA Nintendo, they're better at it and off you far more money (Dringo please).
