Who loves Acclaim?

*silence*

It is a sad, sorry state of affairs, the once fantastic Acclaim publishing house is now left, like many other publishers before them, releasing crap for the Playstation.

Acclaim were once a hero to Nintendo and their legions of fans, a western developer that stood beside the ailing company when things turned sour. Turok and the 3 following sequels were all made near enough exclusive to the N64 (bar the GBC and PC versions)... the very popular WWF Attitude was released with an extra mode on the N64 and of course Shadowman was built specifically for the Nintendo system.

Along with Konami, Acclaim were one of the only companies releasing exclusive software for the fantastic but un-realised brilliance of the N64... and one of the only adult companies...

Oh happy days.

Acclaim turned sour. During re-structuring the cool names of Acclaim's inhouse developers (such as Turok developer Iguana) soon became pathetic names based on where they were allocated. Turok Evolution became multi-format... the lack of concentration on the Nintendo system spoilt the series beyond recognition... even though we still felt hope after Turok 3. Burnout enjoyed limited success on Nintendo's system and the failure of Acclaim's now crap franchises cause Acclaim officials to hit out on Nintendo.

This was soon re-tracted, successful sales of the Extreme-G series and Burnout meant Gamecube was still profitable with some games.... just not all and so Acclaim still wish to support the console a bit...

But we don't care anymore.

Despite Burnout being fantastic it's recent sale to EA has meant Acclaim are in a pit of hell... producing dog awful wrestling sims and poor mans adult titles....

Things are getting bad to worse.

How it saddens me, Nintendo lost Konami and Acclaim when trying to appeal to new developers... Nintendo are trying to re-capture ties with Konami but my advice is to leave Acclaim well alone. Unless they can re-capture their glory days the company is very nearly dead and buried... stay in bed with EA Nintendo, they're better at it and off you far more money (Dringo please).

They are sh*t because all there ideas have been pulled into making their games main-s**tream. I thought I would give them a chance with Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance but it ended up being utter guff and nothing like the original Mortal Kombat games. Very few companies can make decent games across multiple platforms. UBISOFT have managed it with Prince of Persia and hopefully the same will go for Driver 3, outside of a small handfull of games I can't think of many companies that can produce top quality games spread across 4 platforms. Ins**tead of s**ticking to Nintendo they decided to opt for the financial route of the PS2, I mean lets face it, anything with pretty pictures and a colourful manual sells on the PS2, it doesn't mean the game was any worse for the other platforms, you could package up a piece of sh*t for the PS2 and it would sell 750,000 copies in its firs**t weekend.

I used to rate them as a company but now I don't have time for them.

Did you read the post? No? Obviously not.

Acclaim no longer own the rights to Burnout and they haven't abandoned the Gamecube.

Shadowman 2ndcoming massive dissapointment, Turok Evolution dire, BMX XXX horrible....

Acclaim's profits plunge...

Legends of Wrestling.... PLEASE!

You think Acclaim's really good then.

Extreme G aint too bad.

Do you consider them s**t for any reason OTHER than they abandoned Nintendo for Sony? Burnout 2 is the most recent game of theirs I can think of and that is awesome.

The only reason they underperfomed on the Cube is because they released it 6 months later.

Acclaim have jumped from Nintendo's bed into Sony's.... and I'd be saddened if it wasn't for the fact they're now s**t.

Oh yes, Acclaim were great - Turok, aka Fogfighter... and... nothing else of note up until Burnout 1 & 2, which were amazing games and sold massively well on PS2. If this franchise underperformed on GC I'm not surprised they have chosen to focus on PS2 (although I don't think that's even true).

I'm sure Burnout 3 will be excellent as well.

I totally agree that Turok 1 was the best. It has the best weapons, levels, everything!

But the vortex cube on Turok: Evolution is fun.

But anyway..

Im playing Dino Hunter tonight.

Acclaim are retarded. If they had any sense they'd realise that the original Turok was by far the greatest and take it back to its roots. Instead they seem happy to realease awful, wannabe Halo clones that stink royally.

All Turok needs is stupidly overpowered guns and lashings of blood and death. None of this flying bollards and poor attempts at stealth.

Think it all went downhill after they closed Acclaim Teesside! They all dispersed and formed their own companies.

heh

I remember one of my tutors at uni was one of the model designers/creators on Shadowman.
