So my mate got a modded xbox from a site on the internet. I'll not say which one, as
a) they are in a way in competition with SR
b) use of such consoles could be illegal (I don't know to be honest)

Anyway, it comes with a choice of HD's up to 250gig, a choice of DVD Rom drives (Samsung one is £10 extra), and a choice of mod chips.

It's all professionally done, included with your package is several emulators, such as MAME, N64 emulators and the like. Windows Media player is on it also, which allows you to play MP3's copied over from your PC.

You can copy games onto the HD and play them straight from that, drastically cutting load times. It's multi-region also, has a choice of dashboard skins (which can also be replaced by images on your PC). It plugs directly into your PC via a parallel port, and you can switch off the chip to use live if you wish. You can also watch your DVD's without a remote (something that should have been available with the standard box)

This may be the norm - I don't have much experience with modded boxes, but I just wanted to say it is all very professional looking indeed. The menus you use to navigate between your games, applications and music is very polished and asthetically excellent. It almost feels as though Microsoft themselves did it. It begs the question - why haven't they done it? It lets you see the true potential of the console, and when you look at what you get with the standard package, it's not a whole lot in comparison.

Sure, the modded one is a little more expensive, and you only get a 3 month guarantee, but surely it's worth it for all the extras you get.

As it is I'm going to upgrade myself I think when cash allows, and providing my mates doesn't explode 2 days after the guarantee runs out.

Maybe this is a taster of what microsoft have planned with the XBOX2? I surely hope so.

about £185, but then you add a bit extra on depending on how big you want the HD. so you could say nearly double the price.

I have a chipped one already (bought second hand) can you send me the link anyway please ([email protected]) Didn't need bigger HD etc, only wanted it for import games, not pirated games.

Just one word of caution: Live

Chip must be switched off (assuming it has a switch fitted)

xbox-scene.com tell you everything about chipped/modded Xboxes by the way.

yeah, I know, it has a switch on the front for disabling the mod chip. it also mentions on the site that there is a utility on there to change your gamertag, should you get banned. that can't be a good thing.

Thanks for email, thought you meant them.

After getting banned, the BIOS chip in your Xbox is banned, not your gamertag, so unless you get another XBox and copy the bios over from that to the banned machine you won't be allowed back on Live !

As much as it isn't illegal to have a Nintendo 64 emulator, it is illegal to use Nintendo 64 roms - so as far as legality goes, the emulator is useless unless you are thinking of developing your own software.

I don't think the law physically stops you from playing ROMs does it?
I don't know.

Yup, this is also another way to coppy the games and make backup coppies for yourself, but i wont say how on here for obvious reasons.
But if anyone would like to get in touch with me i would be happy to tell them.

Think i have about 200 skins on mine, i just download them from my pc.

Thats good, mine does not do that as it is an old chip, to link mine up to the computer i have to connect it using a LAN wire and access the HDD using flash FXP.

You can also watch your

Yer just use the controller, also you can watch VCD's.

Ya see minne is 99.9% exactly the same as this, and my mate (who does this weird job) done mine and i have had it over a year and never 1 single problem. My 6 mates who have had it done by the same guy have never had a problem.

I paid my mate £50, £45 for the chip and £5 for himself.

I got none.

Definatly.

If I was going to get a modded Xbox I would go the whole hog and get one with a 1.4 GHz Pentium 3 in it and much more RAM.
