There are absolutely loads of genres of gaming out there but which one is best? Some say that it may be a matter of personal opinion but I lets analyze all the genres. What are their advantages and disadvantages. First genre.

Action.
Normally involves guns and or a non-original plot that includes inflitrating a base or killing a load of bad guys. It's strengths are that it has a very large audience but they are normally unoriginal.

Shoot Em' Up.
Quite similar to action expect...well, more guns. You almost always have a Glock '47 or an Uzi at your disposal. Again, they are very popular but unoriginal.

Horror.
Not for the faint hearted! I think that there are not enough horror games on the market. Always involve zombies and a situation where you must escape. They have a very big audience but there are not enough of them if you ask me.

Role Playing Game.
There are not too many of these gems floating in the gaming stratosphere. When found, they are games you will want to hang onto. They are usually at least 2 discs but are up to 5 discs. The most famous RPG's are the Final Fantasy series, which is now up to it's 9th installment. They have a big audience, especially in Japan ( their origin ) but some people find them too long or too hard to get into and are also people are waiting for them to be released for years ( literally ).

Sports.
Normally trying to be a simulator, these games often end up failing miserably due to the fee to buy the license for the sport and not having much money left over. They are realistic but they are normally disappointments.

Strategy.
A lot of the Strategy games have an excellent FMV intro but then very disappointing in-game graphics. Basically every strategy game you play will have the same graphics. They are very addictive but if the graphics were, better, I think that it might help.

Simulation.
A very small market for games like this. Some of the famous ones are Microsoft Flight Simulator and Train Simulator. The graphics are very good but the games themselves are normally nothing special.

I only ever seem to buy games under two reasons etc.

Games that will last me a long time and I will keep, like RPG's and serious games.

Games that are fun to play, for just picking up for 20 mins that either have good fun multiplayer or like CBFD short and fun one player game?

I rarely ever buy horror games, not because they are too scary or becuase I am squeamish...nothing off the sort. I am the kid that enjoys spraying blood on Perfect Dark and head shots on CBFD, no, I just find them a bit boring and not enough action, or not really fun to pick up and play but good for a week.

And I rarely buy Racing games, like Gran Turismo games, Ridge Racer, Rally games, F1 Games, because of being repetitive and not lasting very long the realistic ones aren't all that fun and get boring, and I only ever buy racing games if they are like Mariokart and Diddy Kong and have some form of fun and not to serious and realistic, which is why I am looking forward to GC's Donkey Kong racing.

And sports games I do like them and they can be fun but not for long so I don't often buy them but I do have the odd 3-5 in the house to play on!

So for me:

1: RPG
- Things like Zelda and Final Fantasy! I like playing these becuase they will last me a long time, they are fun, I like a good and strong storyline in my games and something to follow and look forward to. In a way they can be addictive and totally suck you into the game, good for totally ignoring listening to your parents. And they usually have some good cut scenes, and FMV's but my only complaint is that there are way too many in some RPG's.

2: Adventure/3D Platformer
- Games like Conker's Bad Fur Day, and Banjo - Tooie. These are not as long lasting as the RPG's but can last up to 50 hours. They are more colourful and overall more fun, the storyline isn't as strong as the RPG's but these games are the most similar to RPG's. I like playing these games as an alternative to RPG's and I have ordered Banjo-tooie for my GAD. They usually have fun and great new Multiplayer ideas too, that add the extra hours and longetivity of the game, adding an extra choice and are great for you and your mates to play.

3: Beat em ups
- Like Tekken for short bursts of fun. Great for mates and multiplayer fun, usually bright backgrounds, good combos and moves, addictive in their own way Still lots of fun and now you will find extra modes in the single player as one player does get a but tedious.

4: FPS
- Like Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, good longish one-player modes that can last 10-20 hours and with some good replayability, but the real fun in these types of games are going against your family and friends in the multiplayer modes or all teaming up against the 5 teams from the computer in an all out war. Great fun for playing with friends.

5: Sports
- I must admit while I still like playing these types of games the odd day they are the least fun for me, they don't last long in one player and get boring by your self after half an hour max. Not really my type of game and the only thing I really like these genre games for is the mulitplayer. It can be fun working co-operatly with a friend or fiends or going against them up to two on two. Quite good fun again like the one-player not for too long.

6, 7, 8, 9, 10 all are the rest with racing games just slipping behind 5 quite closely only fun racing games for me but again they can get boring. And horror, F1 games at the bottom of the list for me being repetitive and boring unless you are a fan of Formula one and rally racing.

Well here is my best genres.

I prefere shoot em ups in third person view. Or even better maybe on day they will create a game that has the same kind of view the wwf games have, so you will get to see everything thats happening

I'm gonna stick up for 1st person.
You find that all the new technology is firts released in the 1st person genre.
The AI is normally the best around.
The graphics are normally the best.
All the graphics cards manufacturers use them as benchmarks.
The most popular online game in the world is one.

All these facts are irrelevant if you just dont like the genre.

Max payne, Hitman, Project IGI, Deus EX, Half Life, Giants, Gunman Chronicles, Quake 1 & 2 & 3, Doom, Duke Nukem, Unreal etc.

The names speak for themselves, each one is different. Each one is groundbreaking.

I'm going to stick up for turn-based strategy games (i.e. not realtime a la C&C etc.), 'coz when they're good they're very good. Civilisation is the only game that kept me up ALL through the night, saying "just one more turn, so I can finish that wonder/advance/enemy off". You don't see enough of these games anymore, all strategy games seem to be real-time, which may be more "realistic" but lessens the strategic..errr...ness imho. X:COM tftd was storming, too, like a turn-based variant on Syndicate. Even if it was just UFO with different graphics.
