I want to buy the highest processor I can without buying a new motherboard. I've seen a 550mhz for £30 but someone said once it wouldn't work in my PC. Advice?
Thanks.

Whoops I nearly reported this message!! But anyway!! I know that already and I don't have to pay for much anyway for starters my parents have said that they will pay for anything I need to start, so I can probably blag my way into getting extra that isn't nessescary!! But, my dad has said looking at some stuff, that it could be cheeper to scrap the old one and get a completely new system.
And I know that it needs different programs and I know that in the future and not far things should start happening for the Pentium 4 computers etc. and I am planning to keep it and use it for a few years into the future so I think it is a good idea to stick with the P4 idea instead of having to buy a new motherboard when everything changes.
I have quite a few games now and the downstairs one has a lot of stuff saved on it already without the addition of games and me always being on the Internet, SR etc. my parents and other family members, they rarely get to use it now that the old one upstairs is crap!
SO really it is just for extra space, faster gaming good internet service really, but my dad has said that upgrading should be easy enough, and he has said that adding RAM and stuff like that is very easy!!
If you want a relatively fast system now, at a low price, go for an Athlon. If you can afford it, and want an excellent system for the future, get a P4.

RDRAM RIMMs I think they're called. Odd, definitely - you have to install the equivalent of a blanking plate in unused memory slots!

And we hope that by Chrimb it is upgraded with a new motherboard etc. to P4 1.5 or higher ghz etc. brand new to match the one downstairs!! I hope it is easy!!
Also, I don't want to install a new mobo as that really would require me taking it into a shop.
I would however advise investing in something a bit faster.
