Capcom on Devil May Cry:

"I haven't been able to study other hardware, so I can't say specifically. I would say the game would look prettier on Xbox. As for Gamecube, I have a feeling it isn't the right kind of game for this platform."

Good idea Turbonutter get behind that chair I suggest the rest of you join him...

WHAT!!!! Capcom, no, please!

Nintendo are making them selves seem more adult look at Eternal Darkness. I am hurt and disappointed, I thought Devil May Cry looked excellent, it's not that it might not come out on it; no it's the reason why it might not.

Hmmm what could he mean? Wouldn't look right, I WONDER!

Why not Capcom? Your bringing Resident Evil 0 and 4? Are you scared of Eternal Darkness or something? I am gutted as Nintendo have tried so hard to change their image to sop those sought of comments.

Look at Luigi's Mansion, sure it is still cute but the storyline isn't lets go to a castle in the sky to rescue a Princess, instead it's rid a mansion of ghosts! And with Luigi's new jeans I’d say it is much more older looking than the previous Mario and Luigi games.

Eternal Darkness and Too Human are Nintendo's first in house horror games as well and with Perfect Dark 0 and Conker 2 still to come I’d say Devil May Cry would fit perfectly.

So there you have it! Everything many others and I had tried to do to prove Nintendo isn't the kiddie console it has been labeled ripped up and we are forced to start again.

Nintendo are out to do one thing, make money. They have one of the world's finest and most well known designers in Miyamoto, and they know exactly what market the are aiming for. Their market is defined to a fine point by Pokemon, this is the customer base Ninteno want to tap into with it's new consoles, why?? Because for it to go into a full scale war with Microsoft and Sony, it would struggle, simply because of the wealth of the other two.

I would agree that the UK is a different kettle of fish to other markets around the world, but Nintendo don't really care, we contribte a tiny amout of the global games market in terms of sales, the wars are lost and won in America and Japan. As for the survival of consoles, I think it is viable for the marketplace to sustain two consoles at any one time, and with Sony and Nintendo having so many fans, it's hard to see Microsoft getting a foothold outside of the PC market.

For some reason gone are the days of cross platform gaming. Look back at the SNES, Megadrive and Amiga. Each of these systems were sustained on a level far beyond what we would see today. But most importantly look at the games, all the best third party games were available on all of the systems, your Sensible Soccer, Desert Strike, EA sports game etc, etc. what made or broke consoles back then were the 1st party games being offered. Now many third party companies are making exclusive titles in return for buckets of cash, and at the moment that is no bad thing. With the electronics and manufacturing trade falling into recession worldwide, computer games companies may be about to take harder hits than they have already and we could see the launch of the new consoles in the UK hit with increased prices and with shortages. Not because Nintendo and Microsoft want to, but because of the state of World manufacturing.

What that does is leaves people with a tough choice. Do they want to play a wait and see attitude and hope that the world markets get better, or do they want to buy a PS2 and play some great games. Either way what we should all learn to respect is that some people would rather play Metal Gear Solid 2 rather than MArio/Zelda Gamecube, and it's simple decisions like this that will help people decide what they want, not arguements over who prefers what.

But it was just so in-your-face.

At first it was OK as only a few people had the game and we hung around in a group. Then EVERYONE got it,and there was the trading cards and it came to the point where you couldn't move for Pokémon games at school. I liked it because it was unusual and only a select few had it (this was when we emulated it on the PC) but suddenly it was Pokémon overload and it was really off-putting.

You can have too much of a good thing and that's exactly what Nintendo did.

Why let the merchandising put you off though?

I simply ignore it.

Capcom haven't said Nintendo is childish - one guy that worked on Devil May Cry has said it may not be suitable for the GAMECUBE, without even knowing anything about it's hardware.

Hardly shocking news.

Nintendo do have an image that will lead to more family oriented games being released on it's consoles, and this isn't an image that it needs to shake, this part of the industry is highly profitable.

What Nintendo would like, however, would be to gain a greater share of the mature gamers market.

To do this they need to show the 3rd parties that more 'adult oriented' titles will sell on the GAMECUBE. If Eternal Darkness is a success, then other third party developers will follow with thier adult oriented games, if, however, it doesn't sell well, then it will seem to developers that the GAMECUBE is not the console for it's more mature games.

Personally I want the games to look childish, I want to be able to play them around my kids. Yes I'll get Eternal Darkness, but it sure won't be a game to play until the kids are tucked up in bed.

There are other more mature games on the way too, such as Resident Evil 0, but more mature doesn't have to just mean zombies, or horror. Too Human is a dark RPG, Metroid is said to have a very dark look and feel to it. There are a number of RPG's on the way to the 'CUBE, and these always attract a more mature gamer than the 3D adventure does.

Anyway, on to Pokemon. I bought Pokemon Blue, and thoughtit was great fun. My wife and I played it and we did manage to "catch 'em all". I never one felt stupid playing the game, as it was an enjoyable experience. I never once thought "I really should be blowing zombies heads off at my age..." Maybe that's because the appeal of a game isn't simply older games like blood.

A more mature gamer will enjoy any game that offers a challenge, that is fun to play, that requires a little skill, it's the immature gamers that at nothing but the graphics, and insist that their games are better because they look more realistic.

The look of a game is important, but you really shouldn't dismiss a game because it is set in a fantasy world, with bright colours. It certainly doesn't hamper playability, but your welcome to dismiss the games as childish - that's your choice.
