There's a Jaws (Smith's favourite film) homage in each film in the "propper" New Jersey Trilory:

Clerks: The salsa shark
Malrats: Quint and Bruce
Chasing Amy: Banky and Alyssa compare their oral scars a la the scene on the boat in Jaws. Hooper is also the name of a Jaws character.
