We all know the obvious games that we should be on the look for when released, the games that are set to be a great experience to play.

The likes of:

Gran Turismo 4
Killzone
Grand Theft Auto San Andreas
Driv3r
Metal Gear Solid 3
Rainbow Six 3
Resident Evil Outbreak
Hitman Contracts
Syphon Filter Omega Strain

Just wondering what other games you expect to turn out great.

Can someone link me to some Mercenaries coverage? I know nothing of this game.

Well there are a few reasons, first being that of memory. The amount of VRAM for the PS2 is rather small, especially compared to the Xbox (which is customisable); if constant hi res textures were used throughou, even when looking from afar, that would mean more work than is necessary for the GPU - which can be better handled, or probably necessary to be used in other things such as buildings. As you get closer there is less of the world to see, and therefore textures on walls and surfaces can be focused on more.

It's rather clever, constantly changing the texture level according to the distance from the player.
