On Friday night, I watched some of the Brasseye special on C4. It was absolutely disgusting, in my opinion. It was meant to be a comedy, and the only time I laughed was once, just as I turned on, when it had, "Here is a peadophile disguised as a house."

Then I began to see what it was all about. They showed footage of 2 people having sex, the woman meant to be a 10-year-old girl. They also brought a boy in, and then asked a 'peadophile,' if he fancied him!

After clocking up over a 1000 complaints, one from MP David Blunkett, they STILL showed the repeat!

And what's this I hear? They're getting rid of WWF because of it's 'extreme nature.' Supposedly, it's 'too hard to edit,' although it's shown at past midnight, and their have been a few complaints about the crazy stunts and the way they portray women.

John Bayer, Director of Media Watch UK, slammed the move. He said, "On one hand they transmit disgraceful programmmes such as Brass Eye and on the other hand they have a dislike of wrestling, which is just acting and healthy messing around. Their double standards are incomprehensable."

I completely agree. Brasseye wasn't funny, it was disgusting, and I expect it offended many people. How'd you think people who had actually been affected by the subject felt??

I was also shocked to see (not sure about her name,) but that women who starred in great comedies such as Beast and Smack The Pony, playing a large role in the program!

So Channel 4 think that Sports-Entertainment is wrong, and Brasseye is right. Wrestling is very popular in the UK, and the 4 PPV's that they show over the whole year, as well as the weekly edition of Sunday Night Heat, must get them a lot of viewers. Their have been hardly any complaints, and it's now been changed from an afternoon showing to a late night showing. Brasseye, which was shown at around 10pm I think, has now had over 2000 complaints, they show it twice and have still done nothing about it.

I am very annoyed at the actions of Channel 4. It's probably one of my favourite channels as it shows class programs such as Friends, Frasier, South Park and has good coverage of the Cricket. And of course, it did have WWF.

I would like to hear your views, and if you actually liked Brasseye, please tell me why as I am shocked that anyone could actually enjoy a programme with such dirty, offensive material.

Thanks for reading, Ant.

See, Ant has reacted in the correct and adult way
"I didn't like it so I turned it off"

The Sun ran a story for 2 days before saying how sick it is.
Why not just ignore it and that way, only the people that like Brasseye and Morris' humour will watch it?
I didn't hear any kind of uproar about Blue Jam on Radio 1.
Why not?
Because it wasn't advertised in any way whatsoever.
It's a lot more offensive than Brasseye (if you think that was offensive), I cant begin to list the topics touched on the radio show, as I'll get banned.

The thing is, in a week everyone will have forgotten about it.
The whole point of the show was the immediate knee-jerk reaction people have to the subject, and the sensationalist nature that it's dealt with by the media.
I've just finished watching this episode and thought it was fantastic.

Examples of Morris work? A focus group with members of the public when he held a picture of a little girl up and said
"Would you have sex with this 3 year old girl now that she's 21?"
Everyone recoiled and spat invectives at the idea.
But read what he said again.
Go on, I'll wait...see? He didnt ask them if they wanted to have sex with a little kid, but they assumed and heard the worst.

People need to watch this again, and think about what is actually said and what is perceived.

The press and public love to complain about this kind of stuff. Anyone remember Ghostwatch from a couple of years back, it caused an outrage and the BBC had to appologise for the whole thing, even though they issued a warning.

At a totally blind guess I'd say the Wresteling being axed also has something to do with the cost of showing it versus the viewing figures it scores.

I doubt Channel4 are too upset about the free publicity, and cult fan base derived from this story...

However, from what I gather from previous posts by GoatBoy over the past few weeks, Chris Morris has gotten himself into too much trouble over the years to be doing these as stunts...

I dont know whether anyone watched Big Breakfast this morning which had one of Mr.Morrises colleges from 'The day today' on, who when asked if Chris Morris had gone too far, replied that it probably wasnt as far as you will see him go... bodes well for the future :)

Although... on another subject... after reading a news article and poll from Britains most popular site (*cough* MSN.co.uk *cough*) it appears over 70% of people dont think his program should have been banned... That the people who critisised the program, especially the polititians, are themselves currently being critisied for complaining about a program they didnt watch.. also, according to the attached forum, most people seem to be on the side of Brass Eye and not that of the papers...

Yes, but C4 are doing the same thing!

It appears to me as though C4 don't like wrestling. Instead of saying, "Next is WWF Wrestling," or whatever, they actually insult it! They even called the wrestlers "dim" at one point.

And now they're getting rid of it thanks to a few complaints, rather than getting rid of Brasseye which has had a very mixed response. Some like it, and some hate it enough to complain about it.

Why not keep wrestling if they're gonna keep Brasseye? I am just saying I would like a detailed response from C4, saying why they are continuing to broadcast Brasseye, and not WWF. They haven't really given us a decent reason yet for banning it.

I'm not actually arguing for Brasseye to be banned! I didn't like it, so I won't watch it. But I want to know why wrestling is banned, and not Brasseye.

But why did you watch it?
If you have seen this

He he, I have an answer to that.

I turned the telly on and it was on C4, and I wondered, "What the hell is all this about?" So I watched some of it.

Okay, I didn't know all this stuff about Morris or whatever-but it would still offend quite a few people if they watched it, right?

So really...the program was just about getting response from the media?? They actually wanted an uproar about it??

Not sure yet, they don't advertise the show at all, simply for the reason that people will react and complain without listening to it.

Last series was on Wed mornings ,1am-2am.

I've got them all on Realplayer, burned onto CD if you want them.

They are NOT funny.
It's ambient music, voices, whispers and sketches.
Not comedy, just...unsettling most of the time.

But it's so different to the inane babble of most radio shows that it gets under your skin.

Top, top stuff.
