Okay, I just made that up...

(the PS2 train Simulator story threw me off for a bit :) )

But what if...

The X-Box were to be released before Christmas (say October) this year, with a price tag of 150.00 quid...

and to have a full compliment of games avalible at launch?

Would anyone here change their minds and pick up the box?

Would anyone take another look at the new machine?

Or would you stick with what you've got... keeping with the PS2 or waiting for the GC?

I noticed their "analysis" of Luigi's Mansion was little more than blind worshipp, mentioning little about the game itself.

I must say, it does look really boring.

NOMs content is pritty crap too. they dont review games properly, all they do is squash a load of screenshot onto the pages and write a few note underneath.

Nom is the crappest Ninty mag possible, you can't get much more biased than the mags creators - that would mean the reviewers, editor, previewers, the people wh answer the letters and even the readers.

The Xbox is based on PC archiecture. PCs aren't designed to play games. Yes, I have read about this.

Why spend a further £300 on an Xbox when I've got far too many good games on the PS2, including MGS2.

They have dominated the market and virtually force people to use their software. I don't like being told what to do.
Windows is slow, bulky, ugly, unreliable and insecure. Linux is neither of those thing. Linux is much much better and doesn't really require THAT much knowledge. Win ME crashes regularly. Their excuse? It's home version, get the proffesional one. Excuse me? THAT's and EXCUSE? Quite frankley, that sickens me. Win ME, like every other Windows, is a faulty product. Inexcusable.

3) It crashed at E3. Badly.

I didn't know about the PS2 crashes. It wasn't featured in the Upwire.

Still twice the price of a GameCube. This was reasons why I don't want to get an Xbox. Out of the two, I'd get a GameCube.

5) It's a PC in a box.

Errrr... it is an upgraded DC actually. It

There's been no effort put into it. For £300 I can get a 1.7ghz processor for my PS and make it much better than the Xbox.

6) I'd have prefered it with a tower.

Errr... it's

It nearly is.

7) It's not really that much (if at all) better than my

Well, how do you know? Have you played the games? Many look

Technically, it still suffers from bandwidth bottlenecks. Loads of experts predict it won't have much more graphical power than the PS2.

BTW I wasn't referring to the games. Many do look promising, but not for me really. I don't like many PC games. Flight sims? Yes. RTS? Red Alert 2, that's it. Anything else? No.

8) I can only afford one console.

Ah well

9) The PS2 rocks most mightilly.

Bias? Do you not

Yes, some of which are better games. If I had spare cash (and if it was still supported) I would get a DC. I do accept all the PS2's faults, but personally I'me extremely happy with it. I saw the articles about the PS2 and they really screamed to me "This is something special. You must get one" and I did. The Xbox however, just doesn't.

TURBO.

I am really disapointed- as one of my fav posters, you have put up so much rubbish and nonsense on this topic is is unbelievable. Do you read NOM? Here's what I mean:

"The fact is, the Xbox isn't designed to play games. What idiots."

Well, it is identical to the DC, but with better specs. H\ve you bothered to learn about the way it works, or did you base your conclusion on MS making PC products? You know the original PS1 only played audio CDs... that stupid japanese company.

As for your reasons for not buying it:

1) The Xbox has little appealing games.

Good point- if the games don't appeal to you then what is the bother. However, as a PS2 owner you must be looking forward to MGS2? Well, that's on Xbox. Also, exclusive games include DOA3, Munche's Exodus and Halo. In addition there are games like project gotham- the sequal to MSR. It may shock you, but Bill Gates is a nice bloke. All but 3 million of hiss 600million is going to charity. Last year he gave 100million to AID prevention alone. Why people hate him I do not know? Explain this?

This is far worse than MS where one mainscreen program crashed. Yet you have selective memory over the Sony incident?

4) It's way expensive.

It will be the same price as the PS2 launch price (or lower). It will include a HDD and modem- even if you don't use them, you still get everything the PS2 has for the same price.

A fairly poorly realised post- based on bias about:

1) Sony being whiter than white

2) MS making a PC in a box (completely wrong)

3) Inaccurate knowledge of Xbox games and specs.

To be fair the question asked in this post

"Would you buy an Xbox if it cost £150 and was out this October?"

is easy to answer, yes yes yes!

At that price you would be extremely stupid not to buy an Xbox, after all it has a load of games comming out for it such as Dead or Alive 3, Star Wars Obi-Wan, Crazy Taxi, Panzer Dragoon, Dino Crisis 3,Genma Onimusha, Madden NFL 2002, F1 2001, a new FIFA game, and WWF Raw is War and Halo to name but a few.

The machine is also stupidly fast and has a great spec, it will also be internet ready have a 8GB hard drive as standard. The hard drive should mean that browsing the net from your TV is finally a reality, it can also be used for storing audio tracks taken from your CDs meaning simply the Xbox will allow you to have the music you want in your games. The Xbox will also have a DVD player (although you will have to buy a remote control to use it to play DVD movies). £150 would be a good price for a DVD layer alone, anyone here who says the wouldnt buy an Xbox for £150 is lying, infact it will probably cost Playstation 2 owners £100 - £150 to buy a PS2 hard drive and get a modem.

The fact is the Xbox will probably cost £300 when it comes out over here in March next year, and that is a decent price. Microsoft will probably be losing £100 per console at least.

Personally I'll get an Xbox if the games are as cheap as they are on the PC, and Ill definately get one if the Xbox plays old PC games (An Emulator may be needed for this).
If this doesnt happen then Ill probably buy a GameCube or PS2, just because I see Microsoft as trying to muscle in on an industry that Nintendo and Sony are leaders in.... in other words for me to buy an Xbox there has to be a benefit to me, and a financial benefit would be nice :-)

RISC can be made to do exactly the same things as CISC chips...

Whether a RISC or CISC chipset is used is irrevlivant to the systems use... it depends on the actual design and speed of the chip

Using a CISC chip is just as useful/valid for a games machine as using RISC chip...

It just depends what route the designer decided to take...

The X-Box isnt any worse off for choosing a CISC chip, than the PS2 was for choosing RISC...
