Isometric is basically a background and a foreground, but it stays the same, ie it doesen't move around, like when you are in a racing game and scenery blurs past: only the character moves.

Sonic 3D was isometric so although it was 3D, it wasn't the 3D we associate as 3D.

Okay, so 2 and a half D doesn't actually make any sense, but what I'm saying is that it ws a fixed camera from above instead of the side, thus giving the illusion of a third dimension in the ability of moving up and down onto different height levels but I wouldn't say it was proper 3D.

I can see what you mean, yes. But it has go pretty good graphics considering it's about ten years old.
I had Sonic 3D on the Megadrive... Oooh yeah, anyway, it wasn't proper 3D. It was like 2 and half D. Anyone see what I'm getting at? I hope so because I don't want to try to put it into words.

I think Sonic was at its prime in 2D. When it made the change over to 3D it just wasn't the same.
