1) What speed is the optimum Live connection? i.e, what minimum does it need to run without too much lag etc?

2) Any dodgy ISPs?

3) Can I order a Brodband package now, and then activate it in a week or so when my line is activated? I.e plug everything in, and then 'activate' a BB account on the same day the lines are activated.

4) Why did the 2-month free trial have to expire end of March? B*stards.

Depends what he is using it for, if it's for Live then I wouldn't bother, he'd get about 10k/sec download speed.

I highly doubt you have an upload speed that high, I've just upgraded to 1mb cable with an upload of 256k now, as you are ADSL you will be higher but certainly not 768k, who is your provider?
