Though N64 carts are more expensive, at least with the majority of 1st and second party titles you didn't need to buy memory cards, thanks to the little area of RAM on the carts that saved the data for you.

As you could always save more than 1 file, I guess this saved N64 gamers a lot of money that would have been spent on memory cards if it was a disc based console...

It had Diggers as one of its first releases.

A quality game back in 1992, and a real contender for the Lemmings puzzle 'em up title.

I'm not saying that it justifies such high prices, but not having to buy memory cards was certainly an advantage, especially as memory cards can be unreliable.

My brother had to take 2 memory cards back to the shop before he got one that worked, and I've lost data from ones I've used on the N64 too.

Saving data onto the carts was more convenient (though you were limited in the number of save files you could have) and it saved money.

Next week we're going to trick you into defending the Amiga CD-32 as the future of gaming.

Thing is Meka, say a PS2 game costs £40 and an N64 game costs £50 (realistic prices methinks). You save £10 for every PS2 game you buy.

But, as you say, you have to buy a memory card. I don't know how much they are but I'd guess at £20. So after two games, they amount spent is the same.

But most people have more than 2 games in their collection, so if you have an N64 you will end up spending more money.

Cost of a 1Mb memory card for the PSX = £2.99

Difference in price between Nintendo cart and PSX game is about £7.00

thats wright, that was one good advantage of sticking with the cartridges. I think nintendo are doing the wright thing by moving away from cartidges now though cos they don't have a big memory capacity meaning that Music and proper video sequences couldn't be put onto them, if they were put on they weren't good a quality as you would get from the CDs.
