And I'm not really after anti-PS2 stuff here...
More just pro-GC and pro-X-Box stuff...
I was curious,
Why are the people who are waiting for the GC and X-Box deciding to wait for their respective machines?
X-Box people especially, since I can imagine that the people waiting for the GC will have some sort of idea what they expect from Nintendo’s release, whereas Microsoft’s machine is much more of a mystery...
What is the appeal of these machines for you?
---
Also... why do people who bought a PSX want to buy a PS2... people buying a N64 wanting a GC?? ... Saturn buying Dreamcast, etc...
I'm not asking about why casual gamers would buy these machines... Since brand following, advertising, and general marketing will be their strongest decision maker...
But for people ho consider themselves gamers, hard-core gamers, whatever... Why are you more intent with sticking with an individual manufacturer, rather than an individual machine?
Again, this isn’t meant to start a flaming session, since I do exactly the same thing myself... I'm just curious as to why anyone else would think this is?

Did you ever consider buying another machine...

Well I started with a Sega Master System, console wise, and used to hate Nintendo, not having played any of their games, I made the natural progression to the Megadrive, and kept it for ages. Then I saw a review of SuperMarioBros3. Apparently it was the 'best game ever'. I bought a NES, then a SNES when it was released.
I considered myself 'too old' to buy a new console for a while after this, and never had the spare money to.
Anyway, I went away for a little while, and when i came home my brother had an N64.
When I moved out of home, I eventually got an N64 because my brother had a library of games I could borrow.
So up until this coming generation I haven't really considered buying any console!
This time around I considered the PS2, but not having the money now, I'd rather wait for the GAMECUBE for the reasons earlier supplied!
I went to buy a Saturn with Panzer Dragoon after seeing the ad on TV. (Yes, a real Sega TV ad, with in-game footage! A rare sight which I will treasure for the rest of my days!)
However, Game had a PlayStation running Wipeout. I stood in the shop for half an hour deciding which one to buy, and eventually Wipeout was just looked far too good to do without. So I left with a PlayStation and a copy of Wipeout. I've never looked back.
PS2 was a logical progression for me, as - despite trading in many PS1 games when I collected my PS2, I still have a decent selection of PS1 games to play. Dreamcast was available, but as I've said before, while I have nothing against Sega, the majority of their software doesn't interest me; I'mnot knocking their software, but I'd be lucky if I could name five titles that really appeal to me.
PS2 offers more of the games I enjoy, so that makes it the only choice for me at the moment. I'm considering a 'cube, but won't make a final decision until it's launched. I'll probably wait a few months after that, get some mags, see what's out and what's coming, try a few titles out in Game, and then decide if it's worth it for me.
One more thing, how can a PS2 be bad when everyone who finds out I've got ones goes "Cool, really?".

Why?
Well for one reason it will be cheaper than the other 2 next gen consoles, so I can afford that, but more importantly I believe that the GAMECUBE is the most family oriented machine, so there will be plenty of titles that I enjoy, and my kids will like to watch, and learn to play as they grow up.
Yes I've stuck with Nintendo, but I like their games.
By that time the PS2 will have come down in price, maybe Sony will have the internet thing working. Also both the 'Cube and the XBox will have been out a while so I'll be able to see what games are available for each, extra's like DVD's online capabilities may help persuade me one or another as well.
Hopefully all these services wil be up and running for all three consoles by the time I need to get a new console. Then I will be able to make an informed decision about what to spend my money on.
