(Bonus and I helped do that enough at the weekend :) )
And I'm not really after anti-PS2 stuff here...
More just pro-GC and pro-X-Box stuff...
I was curious,
Why are the people who are waiting for the GC and X-Box deciding to wait for their respective machines?
X-Box people especially, since I can imagine that the people waiting for the GC will have some sort of idea what they expect from Nintendo’s release, whereas Microsoft’s machine is much more of a mystery...
What is the appeal of these machines for you?
---
Also... why do people who bought a PSX want to buy a PS2... people buying a N64 wanting a GC?? ... Saturn buying Dreamcast, etc...
I'm not asking about why casual gamers would buy these machines... Since brand following, advertising, and general marketing will be their strongest decision maker...
But for people ho consider themselves gamers, hard-core gamers, whatever... Why are you more intent with sticking with an individual manufacturer, rather than an individual machine?
Again, this isn’t meant to start a flaming session, since I do exactly the same thing myself... I'm just curious as to why anyone else would think this is?
However, due to the let down that was the N64.

I think loyty is right isnt it? Customer Loyalty'n'all?
I noticed that in myself...
Although I had a ZX80 (built by my father) and ZX81... I was still an Atari kiddie until I owned a Speccy48k ...
Moving from a console to a computer I didnt worry about loyalties too much, also I was about 8/9, so brands wernt a big thing in my life...
However, I did develop a loyalty to Speccy against the C64
(it not being part of my gang after all ... and the Amstrad never really being considered by either camp as worthy of being jealous of)
Althouh, I did, several years later, leave my speccy behind, and pick up a C64...
Which, although I enjoyed, never quite a much as I did the speccy...
However, my ability to remain loyal to a brand lowered dramatically...
(The same thing hapened when I picked up a MEgadrive, only to grab a SNES later the same year...)
When people cliamed that they owned an ST and that the C64 and 8-bit machines were dead... I wasnt all that fussed...
(Amiga being another Commodore product, so doesnt count as much)
I moved up to the Amiga when 16-bit machines started to become more the standard... (engageing in a bit of Amiga Vs. ST wars (which the Amiga blatantly won! yay! :) )
But I wasnt all the fussed about then changing to the IBM PC and compatibles...
These days I have pretty much no brand loyalty, I bought a N64 for Mario Kart... and was a little gutted that there was no Stret Fighter game for the machine....
But I would now have no problems picking up a PS2 or an X-Box if I preferred the look of what it was going to do...
However, due to the let down that was the N64. I figured I'd try a new company. I'm not as loyal to Sony as I was to Nintendo, loyal is the wrong word, bias.
But, I liked what I saw on the PS1 snd liked what I saw on the PS2 even more. I think it's more my kind of machine than the others, though I'm sure the Xbox and GC will be very good.
I can't say I'm too interested in the Xbox. I'm very happy with my PS2 and am impressed with various games on the horizen for it, as well as the ones I've got!
I will, however, be keeping an eye on the Nintendo developments as I'm willing to disregard the N64(Zelda aside) issues, if they can provide me with an updated SNES!
In the mean time, SONY are the cats for me!
To be honest, I'll probably go wherever Sega give most support as I really like the style of games they make.
Because of that choice I probably won't get a PS2,which is a bit of a shame as there are a few games available for it I'd like, but as Wookiee has said about other systems, there's just not enough to interest me.
This leaves the 'Cube and the XBox. The 'Cube, it's alleged, will go on sale for half the price of the XBox, and I did enjoy some of the N64 titles I bought, but I'm not sure if there's enough of them, I'm still wary after my N64 debacle.
So, as I said earlier, I'll wait until after they've all be out a while, there's enough new and exisitng games for my DC to keep me going 'til nearly next summer, by which time I should have a clearer picture of where I'm going....
Then, multiplayer comes into it too, Perfect Dark and Mario Kart ruling that. Sports are provided by EA and Sega... ah yeah, Sega. Well, Sega are supporting all consoles excellently, but this Sega/Nintendo RPG is interesting me.
I was originally SNES, then went to the Megadrive (better graphics) then went to Saturn (which was naff), then went to PSX which did me ok for 5 years.
Then the N64 and the Dreamcast and the PS2 arrived. The N64's graphics didn't appeal, and I was hesitant about the DC because of the Saturn debacle, I wasn't sure if it would get the backup it needed, and the PS2 had already proved seriously faulty with the first batch.
So I went for the DC, which at least was 128-bit compared to the N64, and am very glad I did, the graphics compared to the PSX are just so superior, and of course I'm back to playing Sega games again, and no one can say anything bad about a lot of Sega software as most people are aware of the sheer gameplay that is involved in their titles.
So now there's only one way to go, and that's more power, which the X-Box is offering, as well of course as Sega titles being available for it.
Looking at the two lists of upcoming releases, Nintendo seem to have stuck to sequels in the same way as the PS2 did on its release, the X-Box hasn't, although the odd Tony Hawks title does crop up here and there.
So in terms of power and new titles, the X-Box is the choice for me, but you have to understand my history of gaming so that you can understand why I want my future of gaming to go in that direction.

Presumably you mean from the next-gen machines?
I considered a Dreamcast (the only next-gen system available before PS2, obviously). I played Ready 2 Rumble 2 - a 'big game' at the time - on a pod in the local cinema, and while the game was fun, I couldn't get on with the controller - I found it uncomfortable; still, that could be replaced, as I've mentioned elsewhere. Over all, there just weren't the games to entice me. The only game to really tempt me into a DC was MSR - but then I knew GT3 was coming, which is probably the one thing that stopped me.
Gamecube was just emerging, and Xbox was unknown at the time, so there wasn't really a viable alternative. I'd waited a long time for PS2, and wasn't prepared to wait longer for Gamecube, especially as - again - so few games appeal have previously appealed to me.
There were also four launch games that I really wanted to play, so waiting wasn't really an option.
By itself,

Did you ever consider any other console? Or with not buying a PS2 and sticking with your PSX for a while longer?

By itself, no - but combined with the rest of the PS2 'package', it certainly helped.
> or was it because of the type of PS1 games that you hoped
> would continue with the PS2?
Yes, that was mostly it. I already knew that GT3 was in development, and the GT3 footage used in GT2's intro had me hooked straight away, even though the cars then looked far too shiny.
Added to that, it was also pretty much certain that other favourites of mine would also make the transition - Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, Dino Crisis, Wipeout etc. What I didn't know then was that many would go multi-platform, but even after that discovery, PlayStation still gives me the biggest over-all selection of games that interest me. So I saw no reason to switch brands, and still don't. That's not to say that I wouldn't find games I'd enjoy on other formats, but I feel I wouldn't find as many.

Was being able to playstation 1 games that made you more interested in buying the PS2?
or was it because of the type of PS1 games that you hoped would continue with the PS2?
or... ???
