If my memory serves me correctly, Wookiee Monster, you have a widescreen TV. I am thinking of upgrading my 14 inch screen (hardly the TV equivalent of the Grand Canyon) to something a little bigger, and a lot wider. I have looked through several catalogues, and the result is: I`m confused... again.

Here are a few questions I was hoping you could answer :-)

What kind of advantage does flat screen give?

If you choose to watch normal TV does it stretch the picture or leave black bars either side?

If it stretches the picture, do you need one that says 16:9 or 4:3 format?

I am looking at about 66cm from corner to corner, which varies in price immensely. Is Thomson a respectable brand? They have a 66 cm for £320, which seems reasonable. However, it doesn`t say 4:3 format or flatscreen etc... There is a Sony one, (and everybody here knows thats a reliable name) but it is twice the price. I can save this money eventually if I do some extra shifts this summer, but is it actually worth it?

Thats about it for now. I really appreciate any help here, as I am clueless. Thanks.

Until now, I didn`t know, so it didn`t affect me, but things`ll be a lot harder from now on...

If you get the chance this saturday, then great, and then use the phone number as a fall back. Either way, thanks again!

The amount of times you`ve helped me out with info and stuff is incredible, so if there`s ever anything you want to know, perhaps about weymouth in Dorset (where I live) or Bath, where I`m at uni, or whatever, then just ask, though with the amount you know, I don`t know why you`d ever have a reason to :-)

Anyway, thanks muchly.

No, mine doesn't either!

When I was talking to an assistant in ours about the Wega TV's (before I bought mine), I asked him if they'd be doing PS2.

He said, "Not as far as I know, but I'm trying to convince them to so that I can use my staff discount!"

:-)

It is very strange that they don't sell it in their own stores, though.

Yeah, but is it just the Sony centre in Dundee which has absolutely nothing to do with the Playstation 2??

No Sony Centre? How do you cope? :-)

I go into ours at least once a month, to see what's new and get my 'fix'! The have a beautiful set-up at the back of the shop - top-end Wega (£2500), top-end DVD (around £1000) DD5.1/DTS decoder/amplifier (around £1000), and Pascal surround speaker system at £800... it's like I died and went to heaven every time I walk in there! Can't afford it all yet, but one day...

Anyway, I have to go into town on Saturday, and I have to pass right by the shop, so going in to ask is no problem. Alternatively I can give you their phone number and you could give them a call. Let me know which, if any, you prefer.

To be honest I didn`t know there was such a thing as a Sony center! All we have is Dixons, Currys, Comet, and slightly dodgy lorries :-)

Please don`t put yourself out anymore than you already have, but if you happen to be in a Sony center, then... (thanks).

I`m probably going to make a final decision sometime next week, and I have a fair idea what things to look for now.

Not sure about that one! I'd imagine it would, though.

Best to ask in a decent shop - preferably a specialist shop, such as - for example - a Sony Centre.

Don't ask in Dixons etc., because they generally don't have a clue - ask in a specialist shop, even if you're not buying there.

If you have nowhere near you, let me know and I'll ask in my local Sony centre - you'll at least know about the Sony sets then, and they may know about other brands too.

I had a look around town today, and have had more questions answered, but also more formed. If a TV has a 100Hz option, does that allow it to play games that use 60 Hz e.g. Fur Fighters and DOA2?

I'd never bought Sony before my original PlayStation.

Then I got a hi-fi, then a DVD player, then my TV and VCR, then my PS2 :-), then a camcorder, and finally my digital camera.

I bought my TV specifically for my PS2, believe it or not! I always used my PS1 on the 14-inch Philips CM8833 monitor I used to run my Amiga on!

I bought my parents a Sony DVD player last Xmas, and convinced them to rent (they rarely buy) a Sony TV and VCR from Radio Rentals/Boxclever.

The only problem with any of the eqipment was my TV, and the Sony Centre fell over themselves to sort it out, eventually giving me a new TV, as mentioned earlier.

Next on my list is a VAIO laptop and an AIBO...
