So we all know the next names for the Playstation consoles, Playstation 3, 4, 5, and 6 (.com's of them have all been taken by Sony, after someone got ps2.com... lucky)

So what do these numbers mean? Is it Sony beginning original? Couldn't be bothered to make a name up? Or does it have a real meaning?

The Playstation 2 has, the same controller as the Playstation, the same logo, (the PS thing), many games from the Playstation (sequels). So does the name have a meaning?... YES!

The Playstation 2 is a sequel console. It is a upgrade of the Playstation; it has games like Tekken, Grand Turismo, Metal Gear Solid, and more. So has the upgrade worked? Yes, it has worked, but if it wasn't backwards compatible it wouldn't be able to (in the words of er-no) ride the success of the Playstation so they can get though these bad times. A good example of this Syphon Filter 3 is coming out on the Playstation 1 not 2, and why is this? I leave it to you. I have a friend who has a Playstation 2, the game he plays the most is Smackdown 2.

Have you ever closed your eyes whilst playing the Playstation 2? The games feel like there the same, no real new experience there, shame really cause the games could be a lot better. I mean, Time Splitters is a good game and all, but it just doesn't feel new. When I first saw Goldeneye, I couldn't believe my eyes. 3-D graphics like I have never seen before. James Bond walking that famous walk, Facility was truly life like. This was a new experience I have never felt like that ever, until Zelda (I won’t go on)

Te name has been done before. Sega did it. Instead of doing a Nintendo and bringing an expansion pak out, they brought a upgraded console out. The Megadrive 2. Any similarities in the name?

I am not dissing the PS2, the games I have played, and the games coming out which I have seen on the game network (and read about in ukgames.com) look promising, but at the moment. It’s just a upgrade. I wanted a new console, like the Gamecube or X-Box. So Sony needs to make the Playstation 3 much more than just a upgrade. Because the Playstation 2 isn't a big enough jump (at the moment) to call it a next generation console.

PS2?? An upgrade??

I've said this soooooo many times before, even created a topic on it!

Surely all consoles are upgrades?? Okay, the names are different, but it's a console which is really an upgrade of the last!

The GameCube will be an upgrade of the N64. In other words, better.

The PS2 is an upgrade of the PSX. In other words, a better console.

The X-Box is new however.

And the PS2 NOT nextgeneration?? Just look at GT3! Now that is next-generation.

The public kinda decided on the name for the PS2. Everyone was calling it that so they went with it. Preliminary names for the PS3 include "GScube",

NO! ARGH! The Dual Shock 2 has pressure sensitive buttons and a more accurate analog stick. The PS2 also has a new logo, and only has the funny "PS" logo on the front to show it's part of the franchise. Also, yes the PS2 has a few updates but the majority aren't. Don't forget, the GC has sequels as well!

You friend either has no money or is buying the wrong games. Syphon filter 3 is coming out on the PS2 because that's the logical progression. You can say the same about Luigi's Mansion.

Umm, yes. GT3 is much differant. SSX is much differant. In most cases, they are, but do you expect them to be? They're games, for God's sake. Do you honestly expect the GC games to feel differant? NO!

The MegaDrive 2 has just a re-design like the PSone. Also like the PSone, the MD 2 has no more power than the MD 1.

What else do you expect it to be you berk? All new consoles are upgrades. The GC is an upgrade. The DC was an upgrade. They all bloody are. It's not like you have much choice with consoles.

URGH, FOR THE SECOND TIME IN ONE HOUR THE PS2 CONTROLLER IS VERY DIFFERANT TO THE PSONE CONTROLLER!!!

How many time do I have to drum this into people's heads before they realise? *stress*

Simon, you are a first class berk, you know nothing about the PS2 so don't say anything. In a perfect world you would never have been born, but unfortunately I'm just going have to keep shouting at you until you leave.

A full breakdown of why your post was a load of manure will follow shortly.
