Yes, you heard me... Sega are the FOG. The reason? Well... think of it like this. There is a games market of 100million people out there. Pretty big eh. However, until now Sega could only sell games to the 6million people with a DC. oh.

Now that's changed. Sega are one of the biggest developers in the world. Think about it. They have 10 departments. Each one can produce twice as many games as a normal developer. Want more proof? Name a genre. Now, think of games that are the best in the genre... one of these will be a sega game.

It is estimates that by 2003 Sega will be the second biggest games publisher in the world after Ninty. Overtaking Namco in the process.

That company is going places... might even buy shares in them:)

Yes Nintendo are the biggest, they

Do You See?

are they? I know for a fact that they are the worlds biggest games PUBLISHER... but maker? They don't make anywhere near as many games like Sega. Think about it, games like Smash Bothers were NOT made by ninty- rather Camelot!

Yes Nintendo are the biggest, they have always been the biggest never not being smaller than anyone else who would never claim to be the biggest as Nintendo are the biggest.

You could say that Sony make their own games - after all, you have Sony Studio Liverpool and Sony Studio Camden. but these 'studios' are companies they've bought.

I can't remember who the Camden studio were, buy the Liverpool lot were formerly Psygnosis.

Most games with the Sony logo on them are published/distributed by Sony, but developed by someone else. GT3 for example is developed by Polyphony Digital, but they have worked extremely closely with Sony to produce the best possible product.

I could be completely worng here, so i'm going to ask this rather than say it:

Do Sony make their own games, or do they have 2nd and third parties do it all for them and Sony just licence the games?

Oh, I see. Doesn't take long to revert to the usual level when someone states an opinion different to your own.

Never mind, eh?

Another common misconception, when it comes to Sega, is that Sonic first appeared on the Sega Master System. Well he didn't, he debuted on the Megadrive, and was ported to the SMS.

The Sega Master System was a popular machine outsie of the USA, as developers could make whatever games they wanted for it. In the USA they weren't allowed to make games for bothe the NES, and the SMS, so most stuck with the NES, as it already had more units in homes.

The Sega Master System still sells in Brazil (well it did last year, I don't know about now), would you believe, under the name Sega Master System 3.

Now Sega make some decent games, highly playable, but in general I think that they're better at creating the arcade style games - the Virtua Strikers, the Space Harriers, the House of the Deads - and in terms of their history, it's arcade games that I remember best - the Hang Ons the Out Runs, the Wonderboys, the Shinobi's.

If Sega's games were the ones that everyone had wanted to play, then wouldn't they have bought a Dreamcast?

There are many people out there, and I'd say it would be the Playstation and Nintendo fanboys that think Sega are rubbish, and they "wouldn't want their trampy games" on a console they own. Sega have to win people over in a way they haven't done so before. With the Dreamcast they had a captive audience - relatively small, but captive none the less. Sega are in an entirely different market now, they're not competing with Nintendo and Sony anymore, they're competing with EA, Capcom, Konami, THQ, Namco - hundreds of developers!

If they fail to promote their games in the same way that they have failed to promote their consoles, then there may be no Sega at all.

Sega the future of gaming ? Well really that has always been the case, it certainly isn’t a new slogan that has just materalised with a company so prestigious that they have their own studios, breeding games with such high stature and amazing quality.
Sonic Team is a household name to many now and it can so easily be compared with the highly reputable Super Mario Club of Nintendo, which of course is under the leash of the ‘Wizard’ Shigeru Miyamoto. To even be compared to a Studio like that of Nintendo’s, really and truly is saying something of what Sega possesses.
Here is a short list containing games on each new format to get the appetite going:

Xbox- Crazy Taxi Next, Jet Set Radio future, House of the dead 3, Pnazer Dragoon next, Power Smash2, Sega GT2002, Gun Valkyrie.

Playstation2- Virtua Fighter 4, Space Channel 5, Crazy Taxi.

GameCube-PhantasyStar Online V2, Monkey Ball, Virtua Soaccer 3, (Possible Mario and Sonic Title).

Gameboy Advance- Sonic Advance, Columns, Chu Chu rocket.

You really cant blame the company either by opting to go the way the did (Multiformat) it was a wise decision, I don’t think I could bare to see the company collapse with so much high profile franchises under its belt falling with the Giant. It was only wise what they did, it guarantees the Life of games which so many of us enjoy and guarantees that we will play them well into the future, regardless of the Platform.
There is some people who are only new to gaming, indeed some that I have spoke to, who just don’t comprehend or realise ‘How Big’ Sega really was in the late 80’s to early 90’s, they where HUGE, directly comparable to both the giants of Today, being Nintendo and Sony.

I will always remember first time seeing Sonic the Hedgehog on my Megadrive, the graphics then would have made your jaw drop, with its multi layered backgrounds, crystal clear sounds and hours of joy. Now those where Sega’s days, unfortunately they tried to get a little cocky and greedy with such abominations such as the Mega CD and 32X, that was the start of Sega’s downfall , consumer confidence dwindled on the hardware front, trust faded with the Saturn and this dreaded distrust blew over to the Dreamcast and subsequently leading Sega down the garden path where it finds itself today.
That was a big problem with the Company, ‘Mistrust’, people had lost all confidence in their hardware and really, they looked to have rectified that problem.
It feels a little strange (to me anyway) to see pictures of a ‘Sega’ game gracing a ‘Nintendo’ console.
10 years ago, hey not even a year ago would I have contemplated of seeing a Sega logo appearing on a game catered for a Nintendo console!
I’m just imagining the onslaught of games heading our way, whether it be Playstation 2, X-Box or the GameCube. One thing that most people haven’t noticed is that each of Sega’s internal studios has specifically set out to manufacture for one specific console, with Sega’s most revered, Sonic Team, lashing out titles for the Gamecube in most cases.
You can only look forward to things like this, but it could prove pretty sour with those who are either- Sony, Nintendo or Microsoft loyalists, as it will be these people who stick to one platform only, therefore denying themselves access to such delights on each platform such as Virtua Soccer for the Gamecube, JetSet Radio for the X-Box and Virtua Fighter 4 for the PS2.
For those who sample the delights of ‘Each’ platform, it is a great situation we find ourselves in. Thank god we don’t or haven’t seen the company folding, denying us to those privileges.
Really that will probably not be the only privalege. It will probably be Sega, Nintendo fans will thank, due to the ever increasing rumours that Nintendo and Sega are negotiating of using an enhanced version of the DreamArena. And with Nintendo in the process using Sega’s servers, saving Nintendo the hassle and time of creating their own, or indeed spurring Nintendo on to create Networked online play because of this attractive option that sits in front of them.
With all these ahead of us and so near to some, it will certainly guarantee Sega’s foothold in the Videogaming market for many years. Sega really will be a force to be reckoned with this time next year, their multi format approach guarantees the geniuses as the future of gaming for many years to come. Roll on 2002.
