I'm totally uninformed about what it is. Is it just a funky way of linking your DX up with a friends with no wires, or is it like some funky ass online gaming system with no wires and no need for broadband connections and crap like that?

To be honest I have no idea as to the penetration of 'hotspots', but as you say, everything went very quiet, so I have no reason to believe they they are prevelent in anything but major shops and shopping areas.

Those 'wi-fi hotspots' went very quiet after their announcement, although my local McDonalds has a small BT sticker in the corner of the dining area saying something like 'Wireless Broadband enabled hotspot'. I've never enquired into it though, as I'm not likely to ever use it.

That was the problem I thought would be there. I reckoned that might be the trouble.

But kudos to Nintendo.

The orignal idea for WiFi was that there would be specified Wifi 'hotspots', of about 100mē, where WiFi enabled devices within this range could connect wirelessly to the internet, for downloading music and suchlike.

This means that the DS won't be online capable just anywhere, but only within 100mē or so of a WiFi portal. I'm not sure that it was ever launched here though, so I doubt that there are any WiFi portals around in the UK.

That's what I was thinking. Don't know how it works, but I spy some tasty possibilities.

Just imagine being an a 3hr train journey, and logging onto a Doom 16 player frag em up!

Really?

Holy s**t. So I can trade my Pokemon with some kid in America and I won't need any kind of broadband or any of that other sh*t.

Oh god, the possibilities for this are f***ing limitless.

I apologise for all the swearing, but it's times like this when it's f***ing needed.

Actually, scratch that.

Via the net, no line connection. World wide DS online play.

Have that!

Ah, just read summat.

16 player gameplay. But it's local. As in 100ft.

So not quite Live stylee, but interesting. Like the N-Gage, just better.
