I've got it Dark Cloud 2 / Dark Chronicle.

Max and Monica are the main charachters in the game. Meanwhile there is a feature in the game that allows you to take photos of things around the world and mix and match to create something new.

No her name's Jade. This is either some game that nobody except phuzzy has ever played, or we're all going to be very embarrassed.
