Matter of opinion.
It was an arcade console, it played the purest forms of Arcade games.
Simple but fun.
It was one of those rare moments when the majority did the right thing.

No it failed because no one bought it. If you are trying to say popularity makes things good or bad then you need a slap.

Yes.
The Dreamcast was crap, that's why it failed. The only good thing to come from it was Skies of Arcadia.

It had some nice games but didn't really do much for me. In truth, it's the worst console I've ever played.
Expensive hardware, delicate gamepads, expensive and restrictive cartriges.
Couldn't handle its games properly without slowdown and fogging.
but despite all that, it had the best games ever.
Perfect Dark, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Mario 64, Zelda Orcarina of Time, WWF: No Mercy, Goldeneye, Smash Brothers, F-Zero X...
These games have been anihilated in terms of technology (and even then, Conker holds up very well for the most part) but other than that they remain the best of their kind.
So we thought "if Nintendo and Rare can do this on a crappy N64, imagine what they'll do on that almost limitless Gamecube"...
And then Nintendo got bored of making "the best game ever" and sold away Rare.
Isn't life funny! :-)
