Well it's sure been a long time!

What with paintball, setting up my own business, working really hard at the day job and basically just not having a 2 minutes to rub together I have neglected my gaming duties and this forum - not that I posted much anyways - less is more in some cases I guess.

But...but... last week I dug out Metroid Prime and decided it was gonna get finished, whether I did it in 5 minute bits or not. I really struggled with it when it came out, being an FPS man born and bred, cutting my teeth on Castle Wolfenstein (the ORIGINAL!!) through to perfecting the rocket jump in Quake 3, playing COD and whooping like an idiot when I took the Nazi HQ (classic moment)*sigh* what was i to do with this weird control system??

Grit my teeth and bear it! It's probably been said a million times. Get over the controls and this game is pure gold. With diamonds. The first time you look over phendrana, to the shriek of the chozo ghost...even watching the water drops spatter on your visor...Brilliance. I think I speak for all who loved it that seeing samus' reflection in the visor was a defining moment.

It's weird the feeling you get playing it - it's like a continuous wonder, mixed with some trepidation about what is around the corner. Every location is great.

The graphics are still marvelous. The environments are large, detailed, and in my opinion outshine those of Halo's (barring some technical bits. I played all the way through and completed - so a qualified opinion this is) for variety and attention to detail. Ok their not bump mapped, real time self shadowed or level 2 pixelshaded and to a large extent don't use things that make games like doom 3 and far cry awesome to look at but...I realised last night that there is a physics model applied to the pirates.

It appears they have rag doll behaviour. I would not have thought it but when I shot a pirate down from a ledge he tumbled and bounced realistically. I tried this on other pirates on slopes and steps and things (I wanted to make sure it wasn't an animation). The first time I saw this in Unreal II I was really impressed. To know this was included in Prime - when the render engine in UII was such a beast - is really impressive.

Anyhoo - I am loving this game. Going through a difficult patch in the Phazon mines but it's challenging rather than frustrating. I am in the Prime bubble now (you know what I mean, when you get into a game boots and all) which is a bit sad - but anyone else who has played recently, is playing or will play it soon - pass some comments...it would be great to hear about the bits that you enjoy.

Laters (for another 6 months perhaps ;o)

I'm truly in love with the game, I just hope the sequel is a tad more linear.

If the game has been erased or somet everytime you load the game it puts a new save file on your memory card.

It has obviously sadly departed.

The whole puzzle leading up to the plasma beam is cool.

YES! Got round to playing for a couple of hours yesterday! I got the ICE spreader, and the powerball and a powerball expansion and a relic thingy! Oh yeah and the frikking cool X RAY visor.

Loved it.

But best of all.... I got the Plasma beam. Bad ass weapon. The spider ball puzzle bit was really cool for this.

Gosh this game is great. I nearly traded it in. I nearly sold it. But this little naggy voie in my head said don't you dare. I nearly did the same with Wind Waker and that naggy voice said the same. The next month is going to be fun.

Alright then queenie! Hope your ladyees know what they're looking at eh ;o)

Hehe - nice to have six hours to play games...:o( I am lucky if I can get 2 to play in. I was reading in another topic about how little time we have to play games. It's sad really - I used to play quake against my buddy for 7 hours straight. I also completed sonic 2 in one sitting with all the emeralds. I mean that was s huge session (I had played it loads beofre but you know what it's like when you didn't have a save facility. You turn into a game smashing zombie).

Good on ya for getting the ice beam...When I first got it I couldn't believe how cool it was. One shot and a rocket wipes out most things. Hehe. Just a bit slow though.

They're not all scannable straight away.
When you get a relic and break one seal, another becomes scannable.

:-)

Not all of us know the fancy "Wavebuster" names for all the weapons Mr Stipes! Wavebeam + Rocket combi is so much more descriptive! :-P

Sarcasm is most unbecoming WS. Play nice, yes?

Good.

Right - been very busy have not had time to play yet. What I want to know is, I visisted the relic site and scanned all the totems. The problem is, there are two entries missing in my log book and I am sure I scanned all the buggers. Do they become unlocked or soemthing when you have the rest of them?
