Tomb Raider is the number one film in the UK.
The film made 3.8 million on its first weekend in UK cinemas.
Shrek dropped to number two, followed by Evolution and Pearl Harbor.
Bridget Jones's Diary continues to attract UK cinemagoers. It has now taken over 40 million in the UK alone, making it only the sixth film in history to reach that mark.
Titanic, The Full Monty, Star Wars Episode 1:The Phantom Menace, Jurassic Park and Toy Story 2 are the only other films to have passed 40 million in the UK.

No, but it certainly indicates that 'professional' critics are irrelevant!

Goatboy would like to point out that number one box office films also include:
Beethoven's 2nd
Nutty Professor 2:The Klumps
K-9
Pokemon The Movie
Scary Movie
Box office isn't necessarily an indication of quality.
That is all.

That's cos the critics don't know their @rse from their elbow, let alone what the public want from a film!
It's ruled the box-office for the opening weekend in both the UK and US, so people are obviously making their own minds up and ignoring the critics.
Even if it's only the Lara fans going to see it, it's still a success, in spite of the critics.
