From waking up, getting dressed (new Leeds shirt, hurrah, and checking downstairs for the post, I've been playing on Mario Golf. Bear in mind that I have never touched the 64 version, and, therefore, I can't compare it to the earlier version or whatever.

For the last hour or so, I've been playing through a tournament (on Laiktu), playing the Ring Challenges and just finished a match-up against Luigi, and, in two words, I can accuratelky describe it as a golf sim - above average. If this was back on the 64, it'd be superb as a golf sim. But now, with the new ways to hit the ball with the analogue stick, it justr looks aged.

But, if you're buying a Mario game to be a simulator then there is something up with you, seriously. Being able to 'compliment' the other player and fill his screen with 'let's go!', 'you're the best' by button smashing is a good touch, and could do well in multiplayer, and the range of characters bodes well for playability.

I'm going back for another go. I'll post back with some more thoughts later on.

I really loved the N64 version, but I haven't really been that interested in the GC one for some reason, maybe because I have Tiger Woods 2004 on the PC and that is regarded as a better golf title.

I might still give Mario Golf a shot though, I'm sure it's probably not as good a golf game as the recent Tiger Woods ones, but I bet it's pretty fun.

Well, I'll be definitely be getting it as soon as my GCSE's finish and I have some cash. I though the N64 version was very good, but I'm still not so sure about this manual hitting system, which sounded very complicated in NOM, I guess I'll have to stick with Auto mode for a while.

The manual hitting system is easy.

A to start
Once the bar has filled to the desired power, press 'b'
Then, when it gets back the start start, hammer your desired combination -AB Super Topspin!

And Tiger Woods may be a better golf game, but now, after playing with Bowser, instead of 'beige' Mario, it's becoming tres amusant!

Anyhoo, once I get ointo teh chain chomps, you all shall fear.

I loved the N64 version, one of my favourite games.

Amazon dispatched TT today, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to play it.

I couldn't care less about realism in golf, especially how you hit a shot. It really makes no difference to me. I played Links 2004 on the Xbox and it was dull as dishwater.

Mario Golf is about fun.

Links is a rubbish game, Tiger Woods on the other hand is excellent.

Mario Golf would have been good if they'd have brought in the analog swinging system, to me it just looks dated so I'll be giving it a wide birth.

Eh? Links was fantastic, single player and multi-player.
Tiger seemed inconsistant, annoying and arcade-y. Which, for once, wasn't good.

The analogue wouldn't have worked with with Mario, trust me on this. The power bar still works well, especially on the big hitters (Bowser feels godly).

I really hated Links. It tried to be Tiger and failed on almost all accounts.

The single player was embarassingly dire, really couldn't bring myself to play it much. Online was a bit better but the physics engine and the course design was so lacking, it became dull very early on.

As for the commentary..

The Links I played was too easy. Every shot I hit landed exactly where I told it to. As it were.....
