k, got Far Cry to discover that my cd drive is incompatible
???
It suggests downloading the latest firmware from here http://www.netmag.co.uk/downloads/default.asp?pagetypeid=2&articleid=17904&subsectionid=486 and says it fixes it by "The fix works by flashing the firmware in the drive, the little chip inside that gets the drive and your PC talking to each other."
Flashing firmware?
Now I can enter a DOS session, and the readme says to do the following:

1. At DOS prompt type:

c:\flashup 1102U00B.dld /*

(Where '*' is the IDE position of the drive)
Primary Master : 0
Primary Slave : 1
Secondary Master : 2
Secondary Slave : 3
----

My question is, how do I know which IDE position my CD drive is?
Anybody help, cos I know zip about this
-----

Stuck this in the PC section but thats for games. Whoops

You should be able to get it from the startup... when your PC first starts, do you get a load of stuff like:

Primary Master : Maxtor blah blah
Secondary Master: Scumware CDROM

You may be able to just nick it from there. Either that or you can press delete to get into the bios on startup, and it may be able to tell you in that.

If you still can't get anything... It most probably definitely won't be the Primary Master, as that'll be your C: Drive...

What've you got? One hard drive, one cd drive?

If so, try 1 first. If that doesn't work, try 2.
