Tellah: When you say 'it doesnt play true rgb' do you mean its converting it composite signal?
Here was some problems i had anyway
If you have an early ps2 (launch i spose, like mine) then it doesnt work right away and and directs you to there web site where you will see some codes you have to enter. (about 50 characters)
Now, i dont (at the moment) have any region 1 dvds,
so what i tried was selecting region 2 and playing one of those USING A RGB SCART and it worked in colour!
Cool, so now i can keep my old grey ps scart lead plugged in all the time, get the best possible picture for games, and get colour dvd playback.
One problem once i hit restart to try another dvd, it reverted back to green and i had to reboot the disc
and enter the long code. Hassle.
So now, what i need to find out is, if i had a newer version of the dvd drivers, would it just need the code entered once and then just remember it? My version is 1.20E. Anyone have a later version?
And my last question is, do i risk f@$kin up my dvd drive if i coped someone elses system and to a memory card and replace mine?
Im sure that wouldnt work, but im gonna try and find out today.
Thanks, any help appreciated
But it does play DVDs from any region :-)

I just got mine through this morning. I'll be very happy if this is true, so I'll try it later and post tomorrow. I've got a feeling this may be false though because I thought it was a hardware thing..
a new zealand web site (where i am from) sent them an e-mail to see if our nz ones would work with it and when they are released here in nz and datel thought we were on ntsc system (witch we are not) and the reply e-mail from detel said they should have one out soon
hope that helps
why dont you e-mail them an they can keep you informed
an ok region 1 uk site is:
www.armchair-entertainment.co.uk
I may invest in both and get me some R1 DVD's!
