That's what I mean, yes. Mind you, DVD's look much better through the composite lead than games do.
Cause i think it definately looks sharper than that (you know how blury some text can look)
But im no expert :)
On the same topic, Ive just been in HMV in Oxford St, and they are now stocking the Region X for £19.99.
(not the £25 i paid last week in an independant shop - doh)
So, it looks like mainstream shops are now gonna be stocking them, cause when i rang that very shop last week, they said (like a few others) "err we're not sure if we're gonna stock that, Sony might hate us".
So, anyone looking to but one, it should now be easier :)
Yeah, I have to use the region-x disk everytime to play a disk. A pain, but not unbearable. It's worth it. I think the memory card just stores the code to disable the green-screen.
wookie -
I don't know how to check if the output I am getting through my scart lead is true scart. My eyes arn't good enough to detect the quality difference ;-)
The reason I say this is that there's an article in a PS2 magazine I bought last week which actually shows you the circuit board inside the PS2 - and there is a physical modification which disables RGB output. To overcome it, you must join two terminals on the PCB with wire and a soldering iron.
It seems unlikely to me that a software solution (DVD X) would overcome this, so my only interpretation is that the cartridge (via software) disables RGB output completely, resulting in the TV reverting to the composite signal, which a true RGB SCART lead also supplies, through different wires.
Either way, it obviously works, and means that you don't need to have multiple cables connected, or switch between them. And to be honest, having watched some DVD's through my PS2 when I first got it, the quality is pretty good anyway!
And of course, you can watch R1 discs - which is the whole point of DVD X!
I do.
I thought that you only had to spin it up when you wanted to change region? Thats what the memory card was for i thought?
Oh well, it only takes an extra 30 secs, but you know...
Still, you can't beat playing games in RGB (and in my case now i dont have to have filthy s-video cables sticking out the front of my wega - spoiling its sexyness)
:)
I recommend everyone buy this to solve the 2 main pain in the butt problems with the PS2, high quality DVD output and lead swapping.

I went to the above address, and it looks like I will be able to play true scart DVDs!!!
Brilliant!
That was one of my main complaints about the PS2. I will no longer have to swap my leads. I'll try this when I get home.
Thanks again!
Well it seems you have the same PS2 version and scart lead as me so yours should be working.
Go to this page
http://www.dvdregionx.com/
and go to 'x-key codes' page. This should sort you out.
I think when your at the bit where you choose which region you want, you have to press 'select' on your pad and it says 'you need to go to this web page and enter the codes, etc'.
You should find it works fine. One thing though, i had the problem of when i restarted my PS2, i had to enter the whole code in again every time. Rubbish.
But this is sorted out too now, cause i phoned their technical support this morning for help, they said that because i had my memory card in slot 1 while entering the code (with the region x one in slot 2) this confuses the playstation and it doesnt save anything the region x card.
So, when you have to ener the code for the first time, you should take out your ps mem card. After that it will remember the codes. She also said, when Sony release driver updates they will also put a new code up on their website for free for you to use.
Hope you get it sorted :)
I didn't experiment for long, so I'll try again over the weekend. Did you get the region x device as advertised on Special Reserve, or a different one?
