There is absolutely nothing to draw me to the console whatsoever!
Today I tried again, and went to a gaming site to read a few previews. I couldn't do it though! There was nothing being previewed that caught my eye.
When you look at a list of Nintendo previews, you know what you're looking at. You've got your Luigi's, your Metroid's and your Star Fox right there, so you might look here first. This will get you excited about the coming games, so you'll check for more.
If I go to the Xbox website I look at the pick of the games: Halo, Munch's Oddysee, NASCAR, Mad Dash Racing, Dead or Alive 3. Hardly an inspirational bunch of titles to have as the pick of the best on Microsofts very own website, is it?
It seems to me that the Xbox is not geared towards the mass market, or the average gamer, and is a more specialised machine. They really need to start promoting this to more people.
Before the PS2 was released I was made to take notice of it. I was interested in it's launch, and the games that were coming. The Xbox, doesn't do that for me.
I'm very interested in the coming of the GAMECUBE, as I know the characters, and I want to take them on to the next level of gaming, I've grown up with them, after all!
Some say that the Playstation was such a success because it was geared towards the right market. Late teens to early twenties, with a bit of money to spend. That was six years or more ago now, and these people have grown up. Some of them will now have children, but will still be interested in gaming. Are these the people that will buy the Xbox? Certainly not! They'll either get a GAMECUBE because of the Mario's and Pokemon, or they'll get a PS2 to play on themselves.
I just don't think that the Xbox will appeal to enough people. Nintendo will clean up the young end of the market, and many gamers stick with Nintendo, especially if the wave of more grown up titles delivers. Playstation arrived at the right time to serve a new age of gamers, and those that found the image of Nintendo too childish. The PS2 will sell on it's reputation, delivering quality games to a more mature audience.
But honestly, who are Xbox targeting, and will they be interested?
Put yourself in my shoes for a moment Im DarthVader(Bill Gates) master of all that is Evil and your an impressionable young Jedi who wants some respect, and power.
How can I turn you to the DarkSide, would a mini didital camera built into the green gem on the top of the X-box tempt you...hmmm
Would a new RPG called Xelda tempt you???

Personally I don't think that's going to happen is it!

So what games would you like to see on the X-box???
As for the X-box not being aimed towards the mass market Ild disagree, its very mass market and as such its marketing is less focused than say Nintendos. Microsoft is hoping that getting the big games on its machine such as Madden NFL 2002 and WWF Raw is War the American market will buy the machine. The fact that every big PC game will be converted to the machine within 6 months of the machines launch is also another factor that will draw Americans to the machine. The Japanese will be less impressed, as the machine seems to be offering little in terms of new games...but they will come, with time just as they did on the PS2.
Infact with the popularity of X-box assured in America and the GameCube in Japan hopefully Europe will become a big battleground come March next year. Regions like Europe and Australia usually get games last (After the States and Japan), however these regions will soon decide which company triumphs over the other...
perhaps on that note Meka is right, Microsoft should now be paying more notice of what were saying.
