I've tried to get interested in the Xbox, give it a chance, see what it had to offer, but getting myself to like it is just not possible.

There is absolutely nothing to draw me to the console whatsoever!

Today I tried again, and went to a gaming site to read a few previews. I couldn't do it though! There was nothing being previewed that caught my eye.

When you look at a list of Nintendo previews, you know what you're looking at. You've got your Luigi's, your Metroid's and your Star Fox right there, so you might look here first. This will get you excited about the coming games, so you'll check for more.

If I go to the Xbox website I look at the pick of the games: Halo, Munch's Oddysee, NASCAR, Mad Dash Racing, Dead or Alive 3. Hardly an inspirational bunch of titles to have as the pick of the best on Microsofts very own website, is it?

It seems to me that the Xbox is not geared towards the mass market, or the average gamer, and is a more specialised machine. They really need to start promoting this to more people.

Before the PS2 was released I was made to take notice of it. I was interested in it's launch, and the games that were coming. The Xbox, doesn't do that for me.

I'm very interested in the coming of the GAMECUBE, as I know the characters, and I want to take them on to the next level of gaming, I've grown up with them, after all!

Some say that the Playstation was such a success because it was geared towards the right market. Late teens to early twenties, with a bit of money to spend. That was six years or more ago now, and these people have grown up. Some of them will now have children, but will still be interested in gaming. Are these the people that will buy the Xbox? Certainly not! They'll either get a GAMECUBE because of the Mario's and Pokemon, or they'll get a PS2 to play on themselves.

I just don't think that the Xbox will appeal to enough people. Nintendo will clean up the young end of the market, and many gamers stick with Nintendo, especially if the wave of more grown up titles delivers. Playstation arrived at the right time to serve a new age of gamers, and those that found the image of Nintendo too childish. The PS2 will sell on it's reputation, delivering quality games to a more mature audience.

But honestly, who are Xbox targeting, and will they be interested?

The main problem the Xbox has at the moment is it will offer nothing new in terms of games. Every game the Xbox has at launch will be available on the Playstation2 or PC within 6 months.

The GameCube will of course have a load of launch games that will remain GameCube only.

I agree with FantasyMeister that for a new machine to appeal it needs to provide something new.

Yes the Xbox has potential, so does the GameCube. But this potential will be estimated based on the quality of the consoles launch games. If the Xbox provides nothing new it will fail.

First time I've seen you serious in a long time, FM. Nice post.

In the end though, it's all our own decision, and we can only make it based on our feelings towards the games themselves. Fm has every right to like the X-Box, and he has everyright to admit he was wrong, and get a Gamecube instead. ;0)

As do I. If the Gamecube isn't what I expected, and the X-Box is the better option, I will go for the X-Box.

When I'm considering the X-Box as my future console, I agree with Meka, the initial batch of games doesn't look that great. But what I am looking at is the future POTENTIAL of the X-Box, and what games will be coming out in the long run. Nintendo have already secured the Gamecube's future with a great lineup of well known games containing well known characters, whereas the X-Box is doing a Sony, coming into the market and offering 'newness' in its games, a new taste of gameplay, and some knockout specifications.

Potentially though, the ramifications of what the X-Box 'could' do are huge. Take a look at some of the R&D shots from work in progress at

http://www.xbox.com/ news/0106/1801.htm

I remember Meka talking about not just walking through the grass in a game but getting your feet wet with dew and having blades of grass stick to your shoes. These kind of screenshots show just how much closer the X-Box is bringing us to that kind of reality.

Whether in the future developers will be able to produce games to this standard is another issue altogether, but I'm willing to risk my money on it. With that potential in mind, and the possibility of being able to play games the like of which I've never played before, is the main incentive for me to break away from my traditional mainstay consoles and go for something new next time around.

Xbox is targeting all the geeks, and probably the mainstream public too judging from the number of established sequels they have managed to get by persuading publishers to sign up... or DIE.

I do not know. Mario is great and all that but I think it would be good if Munch became a big mascot for a big console. The X-box is going to bring something to the gaming market something that Sony have almost killed. That is of course originality. PS2, even the name is a sequel!

What I'ld like to see on the Xbox is some decent creative software. Music software, Art Software and generally a load of creative stuff that would be accessable to children and adults.

We all remember MarioPaint on the Snes, but the Snes was only a console and therefore limited. The Xbox could be a creative format if Microsoft think ahead.

I also want Delux Paint ressurrected from the dead, I've been using useless PC art software for a while and its really begining to annoy me...With the Delux Paint the left mouse button selected your drawing tool, and the right mouse button gave you that tools options...easy peasey right.

Bring This Logic Back Someone!

It occurred to be that this is the fault of Machintosh owners, and the Macs one button mouse, and the idiots that convert software from the Mac without fully making use of two button mice.

Im sure Disney games will appear on every major console, my point is would Meka consider buying an X-box if it provided games that are suitable for a family?

I'm sure Nintendo have already bought the rights to all those titles!

So you want a family orientated machine, thats fair enough. I've seen the X-boxs advertising and it is not in the slightest family orientated, although there will be games like Shrek making an appearance on the machine.

Do you think that if the X-box landed some more family orientated titles you would be more interested. For example WarnerBrothers or Disney based games, in the Future I would expect these type of Titles to appear on the X-box as the X-box is an American machine.

Would games like "Party at DisneyLand", " Mickeys F1 Challenge" and "Bugs Bunnys Adventures in RabitLand" make you more interested?

How About "Disneys Theme Park", sounds like a good game to me!

I'm sure that when the Xbox is thrust into my face I'll take a look at it, but I really don't think that I'll be interested!

All of the talk so far has failed to interest me, and the console crashing at E3 doesn't give me much hope in it.

The GAMECUBE will be cheaper, and my kids will love to watch me play it. When they get older they'll love to play it too.

I'm sure kids will turn their noses up at the Xbox.

Except the nerdy ones.
