I've not played any video game, excluding the stunningly slick minesweeper or the ingenious freecel, for months.

I think the last time was in january.

Next week I'll be losing my temping job, and will probably have some time before I get a new one.
While it'll be bad for my wallet, I'll have lots of time on my hands, and I figure I can afford to treat myself once.

So, Cube or GBA, I'm looking for a game, one that'll make me want to play it.

Don't listen to Matt, Virtua Striker is the most horrible game I've had to experience n my Cube. He's just an idiot.

Go for Eternal Darkness, Metroid Prime, Mario Sunshine, Viewtiful Joe or Ikaruga.

Okay, my essentials would be:

Gamecube (obviously)
Super Mario Sunshine
Wind Waker
Mario Kart Double Dash

You could easily get all that for under £150, and probably closer to the £100 side of things than the £150.

Also, if you like sports games, I recommend you get Fifa 2004 (on budget, now), Mario Golf, Virtua Striker (slow as hell, but genius) and, basically, the EA series.

Other games I recommend (but aren't necessary) are Luigis Mansion, Pokémon Colosseum, Matroid Prime, XIII. That's if you want to push the boat out, as such.

I'm pretty sure you can find SSX3 for about £10 at the moment as well.
Excellent game, should last you a while, and it's especially good value for money.

Otherwise maybe you could try some of EA's new Players Choice titles. Although some of the are rather poor *cough* Rising Sun *cough*

You really should list which games you already have with this. You seem a little strapped for cash at the mo so Player's Choice games are looking a nice prospect. If you don't have Sunshine/Wind Waker/Metroid for the Cube then you best see to getting one of them. Otherwise there is always Eternal Darkness, F-Zero, Soul Calibur 2, the newly released Mario golf or maybe the slightly slow moving Harvest Moon. Its hard to go wrong with many of these. Timesplitters 2 is also good if on the cheap.

GBA you say? Aim for Wario Ware, Advance Wars or one of the latest Mario incarnations. But I'd personally go for one of the first two.

Enjoy your game(s) my lad...
