Ok with the rise in popularity of “nu-metal” music, if you like this stuff, there is a wealth of much, much louder and more honest music out there for you to discover, here are some you may have missed:

Fudge Tunnel: A Nottingham 3 piece with the classic “Hate Songs in E Minor” album. Guitarist/shouter Alex Newport formed Nailbomb with Max Cavelera from Sepultura/Soulfly. Intense, insanely loud and furiously good.

Clutch: Formerly a shouty hardcore band, they’ve turned into a groove-soaked, perfectly tuneful blues/rock outfit. Do not let these guys go unnoticed.
“Who Wants to Rock?” and “Pure Rock Fury” should be reason enough to listen to them

Cop Shoot Cop: 2 bass players, 1 guitarist, a trombone player, no drummer, 3 percussionists and attitude aplenty.

Biohazard: New York Hardcore at it’s finest.

Helmet: Big, loud, tight, angry, tuneful. Have many stop/start riffs with gaps in. Godlike.

White Zombie: B-movie horror rock. “La Sexorcisto, Devil Music Volume 1” is essential listening.

Rollins Band: Articulate, heavy, passionate music from Henry “hugs” Rollins.

So you don’t need Papa Roach, Limp Bizkit and other white-kids in shorts telling you how mean grown-ups can be.
But what do I know?

What is Nu-Metal? I've heard people talking about Nu-Metal recently and i'm not quite sure what type of music is refers to but at the end of the day it doesn't effect what music i listen to. As Goatboy has said it's all down to personal taste. I would like to think i have a wide taste in music and i do listen to a lot of music in my spare time, my CD collection is growing (about 40 cds now) and i will be hopefully still buying music done by different groups covering different classes of music (i still need more classical and opera music though, any suggestions?). If i haven't heard a group's music before i will listen to a few of their songs at least once, cause i never know i might like it. The only thing that does annoy me is manufactured bands. No matter how good they are in my eyes they will always be manufactured, their songs are written by somebody else, them not being picked for any musical talents just the fact they look good and have white pearly smiles and the fact they push other bands who have worked hard to get where they are out of the chart positions that they deserve to get to. Pop is the biggest victim of manufactured bands but it seems that other classes of music are falling to the manufactured bands.
Past music has always been looked at, no matter how poor it was and i think that in the future people will do the same, hopefully with a postive outlook.

I think the problem with "nu-metal" et al is that it isn't, really. It's not new, but rather another branch on the tree, like all genres, it's just a part,or spin-off, of other genres, if you see what I mean? And it's just been given this label, and people have been told that 'this is how you should view it', and I think some bands may suffer adversely from this, e.g. before they get a chance to show what they are capable of, they will be branded "another nu-metal wanna-be" and as a result will carry this increasingly negative image with them; wether they like it or not. Whaddaya reckon?
