Any suggestions for the best British band currently active? Most of the bands I listen to are American, but I don't believe that's necessarily a reflection on the lack of talent at home. It's just that a lot of record companies over here don't give bands time to mature and develop.

I'd have to give a vote to Pitchshifter - a consistently great band over the last ten years. And to the Lostprophets - a 'new' band that should be huge. Leaning more to the mainstream, maybe Radiohead or Muse?

I think the album Mobile Home loses it in the middle.

The Frank Sonata is the sexiest song I have ever heard, and In the Snow is a fantastic mellow piece to finish off the album.

Lots of their B-Sides are amazing too.

lol... here you go... :P

We're only making plans for Nigel
We only want what's best for him
We're only making plans for Nigel
Nigel just needs this helping hand
And if young Nigel says he's happy
He must be happy
He must be happy in his work
We're only making plans for Nigel
He has his future in a British steel
We're only making plans for Nigel
Nigel's whole future is as good as sealed
And if young Nigel says he's happy
He must be happy
He must be happy in his work
Nigel is not outspoken
But he likes to speak
And loves to be spoken to
Nigel is happy in his work
We're only making plans for Nigel

A great album, I'll agree, though I find 'Moblie Home' an overall better album.

That song 'Gangster' is mighty fine! As is the Frank Sonata. In fact all the tracks are great!

I really think the Longpigs could have gone very far.

Such a shame, but they are still one of my favourite bands.

Check out the album: the Sun is often out.

You will not be disappointed.

Muse or Pitchshifter are probably the best right now, both really great. Best Pitchshifter song is Making Plans For Nigel. Also look out for anything by "Kids Near Water", they're pretty small but will be at Reading this year. My mate pointed them out to me, and they have a 5/6 track EP out I think, it's good stuff; looking foward to seeing them.

My favourite band, have been for a while actually, has to be Incubus. They're US, not UK, but that's ok because they make such great music. I saw them at Brixton a few weeks ago; best live act I've EVER seen. Seriously, go out and get Make Yourself, the latest album, but all their old stuff is just as good.

Too late. We split. Musical (and soya based) differences.
