He's up there with Howling Wolf, Robert Johnson, Buddy Guy, Blind Lemon Jefferson.
These guys created the blues.

This is not on people, I'm sorry to bang on but we need to realise where our musical heritage comes from, otherwise we're adrift in a sea of mediocre pop crap.
And Santana hasn't just appeared on the scene with that song, he's been doing his thing since the 60's.
John Lee Hooker achieved critical acclaim and a wide appeal with his grammy winning "The Healer" that had collaborations with people like Bonnie Raitt, Santana and many, many others.
He had been performing since the the 30's onstage with a choir.
He taught himself the guitar through listening to slaves down South in the cotton fields.
This dude had so much heritage, so many stories and seen so many things.
And now he's dead.
Another dead hero that nobody thinks twice about.
