It will be a great day but I'm going to need some advice.
Now remember here that the X-box is my second console, those that know me know full well that no giant black box will take pride of place before my Nintendo machine
Why am I getting an X-box? Any normal Nintendo fan would answer "RARE". It is slightly true, although I don't like Grabbed by the Gholies and Kameo reminds me of Starfox too much. I would not get an X-box if Conker was not being released next year for the machine. The other reason is that I REALLY enjoy First Person shooters and so naturally an X-box is a good choice.
But you have to remember I'm slowly, and I mean slowly, getting less and less time to play games. Because of which a LOT of games I'd normally buy in the run up to Christmas are getting ignored. Titles like Second Sight, a game that I'd normally snap up, is unlikely to be in my collection.
The Gamecube has a Christmas line up (believe it or not) and Paper Mario 2, Metroid Prime 2, Tales of Symphonia, Donkey Konga, Pikmin 2 and Animal Crossing are games that are essential to my collection. I will also get multi-format title Prince of Persia 2 for the Gamecube. Now for those that can't count that is 7 games. A lot of games to play during the Christmas period and (bar Donkey Konga) none of them are that short.
So the X-box, being the second console, will of course have less games bought for it. Halo 2 and Doom 3 being the only "essential buys" in my eyes. Silent Hill 4: The Room is VERY tempting although it looks like it'll eat up a lot of my time. Time I don't have. Also Pro Evo 4 looks essential.
Here's questions for you:
1: Bar Jet Set Radio: Future, what titles are essential from the X-box back catalogue. Before you all say Halo should I really get it when the second one is so close. Games like "Knights of the Old REpublic" and Morrowind seem a bit too "long" for me to give any time towards.
2: Dead or Alive 3? Or should I wait for the Dead or Alive 2 remake.
3: Gimmie one good reason why I should buy Grabbed by the Gholies?
4: What the hell is Fable? Is it likely to be very long?
5: I know Pro Evolution Soccer is supposed to be the best football series ever but is it THAT much better than the FIFA series. If so... why?
6: LIVE, go on tell me how to sort it out and sell it to me.
7: Bar Fable, Halo 2 and Doom 3 what ESSENTIAL games (that aren't avalible on the gamecube) should I consider getting this Christmas?
8: Galleon, how good is it? Again is it very long?
9: Is Project Gotham that different from Project Gotham 2?
10: Any other advice, suggestions are much appreciated.
One by one, we're all falling, like Dominoes...

Games like Halo 2 and Doom 3 etc... are titles that I will play lots, I am also a big football fan so Pro-evo seems a great choice.
And then there's Jet Set Radio: Future, the sequel to my favourite Dreamcast game.
There is also RARE and the fact that Conker's Bad Fur Day was my favourite N64 games.
And I'm just addicted to the Dead or Alive series.
So FPS's, RARE, DOA and Jet Set Radio... the X-box seems like a good choice. It is a second console and is mainly there for the odd game I wouldn't be able to pick up on the Gamecube.
Like yourself, I got an Xbox as a second console and concentrate mainly on GameCube (infact I'm playing Ocarina of Time on it at the moment) so we should be on similar wavelengths here...

Rainbow Six 3 and Black Arrow are best on Xbox - though only get if you definately plan to get Xbox Live. Otherwise there's Chronicles of Riddick, Project Gotham 2, Rallisport Challenge 2 and er...Halo, which I'd get as cheap as possible if I were you so that you get the entire storyline before Halo 2 comes out.
> 2: Dead or Alive 3? Or should I wait for the Dead or Alive 2 remake.
I got it, completed in a day, took it back. It doesn't compare to Soul Calibur on GameCube.

Makes your collection look bigger? Is there a good reason to get it?

A long RPG thing I believe where the most innovation is in hair growth. Doesn't really interest me to be honest, wont be joining my collection.

I prefer it to the Fifa series but only because it feels that bit more fluid to me. The commentary is better in Fifa.

You need 1x Broadband Connection, 1x Router and/or switch, Ethernet cables (amount depends on setup) and an Xbox Live starter kit. Connect your Xbox to a spare ethernet port on the router, or if there isn't, get yourself a switch and plug it in there. Connect to internet as normal. Start up your Xbox with the Live disc in it and fill in the details when prompted. Credit Card required - does not accept debit.
Xbox Live is the best feature of Xbox. Proper internet play without nerdy "I am teh win" and "u su><>

You've got me there. I normally focus on GameCube and just get the odd Xbox game as it comes out - providing it is decent.

Sales flopped where I worked - even when it became "Deal of the Week" Couldn't get rid of the bloody thing. Obviously sales aren't everything however, "By the makers of Tomb Raider" was enough to put me off.
> 9: Is Project Gotham that different from Project Gotham 2?
Yes. Project Gotham feels extremely limited whereas Project Gotham 2 has an added sense of fun and can be advanced through via a much better system. Plus Live play makes it that much better.

Get Live :P

Project Gotham Racing 2. The best racer ever. So SO SO good. Crimson Skies, air pirate arcadey flight sim thing. Fairly short single player, everlasting multiplayer. ESPN NHL Hockey. Fantastic ice hockey game. Top Spin, best ever tennis game. RalliSport Challenge 2, immensely good rally game. Rainbow Six 3, the most important online shooter since Half Life. Chronicles Of Riddick.
Knights Of The Old Republic is the best RPG since Skies Of Arcadia, arguably better than even it. To do everything, complete all the quests etc should take around 40 hours. However the second one is coming out around January or February, you might want it instead.
> 2: Dead or Alive 3? Or should I wait for the Dead or Alive 2 remake.
It still is an immense fighting game, probably the best out there just now. It depends on how much you like your fighting games and how long you can wait to play one. DOA3 is on the classics range, so is fairly cheap anyway.
> 3: Gimmie one good reason why I should buy Grabbed by the Gholies?
It still has the Rare sense of humour. And you know you love that.
> 4: What the hell is Fable? Is it likely to be very long?
This has already been answered, but it is a super RPG thingy. Will likely take up all of next year, if it is any good.

Ask AfroJoe that one. It is just more right. It plays like real football instead of an interactive animation.
> 6: LIVE, go on tell me how to sort it out and sell it to me.
My Live FAQ has most of it.
> 7: Bar Fable, Halo 2 and Doom 3 what ESSENTIAL games (that aren't

PGR2. In fact, go buy it now and shove it in your boxers for safe keeping until you get the Xbox. It really is that special.
> 8: Galleon, how good is it? Again is it very long?
Don't know and after seven years I don't care either.
> 9: Is Project Gotham that different from Project Gotham 2?

PGR is good. PGR2 is seemingly perfect. PGR had 4 cities, London, San Francisco, New York and Tokyo. The backgrounds were bitmap images and the cars were not the most interesting. It was also stupidly hard at times. PGR 2 has Edinburgh, Washington, Chicago, Barcelona, Florence, Stockholm, Yokohama, Sydney, Hong Kong, Moscow and the Nurburgring as standard. Paris and Long Beach are available to download with extra cars via Live for £3 each.
There are over 100 tracks, and over 100 cars. The cars are split up into categories, ranging from Sports Utility with the Volvo XC90 right up to Ultimate with the Koeniggsegg and Enzo. You have everything from Mini's to Lancers in between. The cities are all fully real time rendered and look far better than PGR. The cars no longer sound like lawn mowers. There is a very comprehensive single player and the never boring multiplayer. PGR2 is just far more complete than PGR, to the extent that PGR looks poor in comparison, despite being better than most other racers out there.
> 10: Any other advice, suggestions are much appreciated.
Most people tend to find the Controller S better. I personally don't, but try them yourself first if you get the choice.
> Here's questions for you:
Okey dokey.

Well, I would hardly stick Jet Set down as an "ESSENTIAL" purchase myself, but your taste probably says otherwise. For me, Rainbow Six 3 has to be gotten hold of. Black Arrow is at a very affordable price, and the game is just immense fun, especially when taken online. Its a brilliant relaistic first person shooter - what you claim to be after. This must be bought.
Project Gotham 2 is another I'd put on the list, but I'll talk more about that below. The only other game that is nigh on essential would probably be Ninja Gaiden. Wonderful, wonderful title, and providing you don't play through it more than once it shouldn't take up too much of your time either. Riddick could be classed as another, but now we've got three FPS titles your after, which is a lot.
> 2: Dead or Alive 3? Or should I wait for the Dead or Alive 2 remake.
Can't comment, but judging on what I've heard and read its not an essential buy.
> 3: Gimmie one good reason why I should buy Grabbed by the Gholies?
Not played I'm afraid, but again, it hasn't been given great reviews.
> 4: What the hell is Fable? Is it likely to be very long?
Fable is an RPG Adventure from the makers of Black & White. If your in to this sort of title it'll probably be a top purchase, but even despite the mammoth time its been in development its not on my essenital Xbox purchases list. Still, you might want to read up on it more, as it may well be your thing.
> 5: I know Pro Evolution Soccer is supposed to be the best football
> series ever but is it THAT much better than the FIFA series. If so...

Pro Evo is far, far better than Fifa, in my opinion at least. It doesn't feel quite as arcadey as Fifa, and offers a generally more realistic encounter. I can't really be bothered to go into great depth, but if you can afford one footy title in the next year, make it Pro Evo 4.
> 6: LIVE, go on tell me how to sort it out and sell it to me.
Okay, as you know I'm a big Nintendo fan, and I'd go as far as saying that without Live (or system link with mates) I wouldn't be happy with my purchase of the Xbox. Seriously. The amount of times I've played Live, especially with Rainbow Six 3, but with PGR2, Unreal (another one to consider at a shade over a tenner) and a host more games too is just mind blowing. And with System Link games of Halo and Rainbow Six with friends becoming more and more frequent, I can safely say that playing Halo 2 live is going to be top draw.
Oh, and it sounds like you're a tad sceptical to how easy it all is. Well, its tremendously easy to set up. No doubts, the Xbox's best feature.
> 7: Bar Fable, Halo 2 and Doom 3 what ESSENTIAL games (that aren't

Burnout 3? Half Life 2? Far Cry? Sudeki?
There are more...
> 8: Galleon, how good is it? Again is it very long?
Not played, and don't really want it.
> 9: Is Project Gotham that different from Project Gotham 2?
Its better in single player, just about, and if you're planning for online racing the Live feature in the sequel of the series is pretty much the height of online racing.
> 10: Any other advice, suggestions are much appreciated.
Yeah, you seem to think Doom 3 is coming out in time for Xmas. Sadley its due out Q1 2005.
Apart from that, I'd say don't get Halo unless you're planning to complete it all before Halo 2 comes out. You probably won't ever play it again after the sequel so it's up to you if you think it's worth it.
Why are you after Silent Hill 4? It looks krubbish, as is Grabbed by the Ghoulies. You might wanna check out BC as well, even though that's another hugely time consuming game on the horizon. KOTOR I'd say is an essential purchase for the Xbox, whether it sucks you in or not. You'll have time to play it one day.
To be honest though, Dringo, I don't see why you're gettng an Xbox. You don't have time to play the cube games that you have let alone the ones coming out this winter. You'll probably end up just wasting your money on games that you'll never play because you don't have time.
It will be a great day but I'm going to need some advice.
