"At last year's Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany, Microsoft announced it would be blitzing board game fans with a trio of titles for the Xbox Live Arcade. The first of those, Catan, came out last month. While the Arabian-themed stock market game Alhambra remains undated, Catan will be joined on the Xbox 360's downloadable game service this week by Sierra Online's Carcassonne.

Microsoft today announced that Carcassonne will be released on the Live Arcade this Wednesday at 2 a.m. Pacific. Originally released in 2000, the Carcassonne board game lets players build a walled cityscape one square tile at a time, aiming to earn the most points by placing followers within completed farms, roads, and cities.

The game will include the original 72-tile board game, as well as its 12-tile The River expansion pack. Sierra Online is also including support for the Xbox Live Vision camera, a tutorial mode, and online multiplayer. Carcassonne has been rated E for Everyone and will sell for 800 Microsoft points ($10)."

Can't wait for Bomberman, Sensible Soccer, Speedball 2, Streets of Rage 2 and the Sonic games!

Prince of Persia's well worth picking up by the way, so much better than the original. The controls are nowhere near as fiddly, it's still quite unforgiving though.

Some interesting titles, though whether Every Extend Extra Extreme will do well with the wonderful Geometry Wars already on there.

First leaked by the German equivalent of the Entertainment Software Rating Board in April, Prince of Persia Classic will hit Xbox Live Marketplace this Wednesday. Gamers can expect to fork over 800 Microsoft points ($10) to experience this classic anew.

Developed by Gameloft, which heretofore has focused on mobile platforms, the remake's major alteration is that it will now be rendered in full 3D. The updated graphics will impact character designs, animations, and other visuals, but the original 2D gameplay will stay much the same.

However, Prince of Persia Classic won't be entirely old hat, as new puzzles and enemies have been added. Gameloft is also including three different game modes: normal mode, where players have unlimited time and saves available at the end of each level; time attack mode, where players must beat the game in under 60 minutes; and survival mode, where players must beat the game in under 60 minutes without dying. Prince of Persia Classic also adds 12 achievements into the mix, and each gameplay mode will have its own leaderboard.

Jordan Mechner's original Prince of Persia platformer was released on the Apple II in 1989. The game was noted for its agonizing level of difficulty, as pinpoint precision was required to navigate the many pitfalls preventing the prince from rescuing the princess. Adding to the difficulty was a strict one-hour time limit, which forced players to forgo caution in the interest of time.

Prince of Persia Classic has been rated T for Teen. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's latest preview.

"Ordinarily, a follow-up to one of gaming's all-time biggest franchises--one created with the original designer's participation, no less--would be subject to months or possibly years of hype.

However, this morning Microsoft and Namco Bandai announced and dated Pac-Man Championship Edition, a revamped version of the arcade classic designed with Pac-creator Toru Iwatani's help. Interested gamers won't have long to wait to go hands-on with the Championship Edition, as it is currently set for release on the Xbox Live Arcade tomorrow at 2 a.m. Pacific.

Pac-Man Championship Edition makes a number of alterations to the traditional Pac-formula. First and foremost, the game's mazes have been designed with a horizontal emphasis to take better advantage of widescreen TVs. On top of that, the mazes will change during gameplay, with players able to enlarge a cramped level by eating bonus fruit. Pac-Man will also be able to string together ghost-eating combos across multiple power pellets.

In addition to the main championship mode, players will be able to try five more modes that tweak the rules and impose five- or 10-minute time limits on the action. The tweaks include invisible walls, warp speed, a mode "inspired by the streets of Manhattan," and an overall course that combines aspects of the other modes.

The game was created to coincide with the Pac-Man World Championship, the finals of which were held today. According to Microsoft, the competition ended with Iwatani himself crowning 27-year-old Carlos Daniel Borrego as the winner. Hailing from Pachuca, Mexico, Borrego scored 222,160 on the Championship Edition during the final match, which was enough to put him atop a field of competitors, including Billy Mitchell, who played the world's first perfect game of Pac-Man in 1999.

Pac-Man Championship Edition has been rated E for Everyone and will be available tomorrow morning for 800 Microsoft points ($10)."

Sounds like Microsoft do listen to feedback as Streets of Rage 2 along with Ecco the Dolphin and Sonic the Hedgehog have all appeared on the ESRB site for Xbox 360.

Can't wait for Streets of Rage 2!

"The toy-vehicles-with-weapons genre is a specific-but-well-explored genre, with the original Micro Machines game paving the way for the likes of Toy Commander and Twisted Metal: Small Brawl. Now the genre is headed for the Xbox 360, as Microsoft today announced that Load Inc.'s Mad Tracks will arrive of the Xbox Live Arcade tomorrow.

Inspired by "pull back and go" toy cars, Mad Tracks debuted as a downloadable PC racing game last year. The Live Arcade version will include a dozen cars, a dozen power-ups, six races, nine minigames, and four-player split-screen or online play. New races and minigames will be added to the game through a pair of expansions packs set to sell for 350 Microsoft Points ($4.37).

Published by D3 Publisher of America, Mad Tracks will sell for 800 Microsoft points ($10) and should be available Wednesday starting at 2 a.m. Pacific. The game has been rated E for Everyone."
