Being a bit old school when it comes to games I would have to say that my favourite would be Elite on the C64. Blimey that’s ages ago he's mad I hear you cry, but at the time it kept it’s side of the game agreement very well for me.
Graphically speaking it is of course ancient, though Vector graphics were a fantastic new innovation then so it seemed wondrous. The sound was three channels of strange zapping noises which added nothing to the game by today’s high expectations for a software title, but then what could you expect from the mid eighties, the pop music around then was about the same.
No it was the simplicity of the game combined with a strange addictive quality that held me in throng, days flew by moving my Cobra MkIII from system to system selling anything and everything. I seem to remember that it mostly ended up as running furs from rich agricultural planets to Rich Industrial planets. Then buying computers to go back the other way.
Then spending your hard earned cash on increasing the offensive and defensive capabilities of my plucky ship to blow other ships out of the vacuum as my rating climbed higher until finally becoming Elite.
So what’s your favourite game?
It doesn’t have to be the best game ever, just your favourite one……
I would say about seven people.
According to Spider, 3 people wrote it :-))))

Good on ya!
Are there any kind of basic RPG's you could recommend that might help me get into the genre?

Yes, yes, yes. I know he is a Resident Evil fan, I

Now he's told me I'm happy.
OK, why I think Skies of Arcadia is the best thing since sliced bread. (What was the best thing BEFORE sliced bread though?)
It's a huge RPG, great graphics, and wonderful gameplay, but it's easy to just pick up and play. Although a lot of people do have a grudge against randomised battles popping up in most locations, every one is different, because every time you get involved in one of these RPG turn-based battles you usually have a new item/spell/skill/weapon to try out, because the permutations are pretty much endless, it's THAT big.
The storyline (I'm still only on disc one, mind you), is gripping, and after 30 hours of gameplay and developing characters, I know that there is whole lot more to do on the next disc, because the manual and promotional materials talk about establishing your own base, discoveries, special items, downloads, and so on, so this DC game has a huge amount left to it, and I'm only just over 1/3rd of the way through (from what I can tell).
It's go everything RPG fans enjoy, and you can tweak your party members' attributes to your heart's content to suit your gaming style (all out attack/defensive/spell casting etc.)
The graphics are some of the best I've yet seen on the DC, a lot of the cut sequences are finely crafted computer graphics, but so good that you think you are not just watching FMV, but playing it as well.
Top game. Hard to beat, but I'm keeping my eyes open...
The multiplayer was amazing. Me and my mates had so much fun playing that over and over during the summer after our GCSE's.
God i wish i had a SNES now....
