And then I should miraculously win.

Obviously not suggesting that is the case, for that would be cynical and world-weary of me.

I mean, I haven't seen anyone complain and moan about "just wanting to win a (game/film)aday" and then...how odd...they win.

And I'm sure Rakuga and Blackhole would agree that I would be overly cynical to suggest such a thing.
Nor would I suggest that the DVD forum has seen a massive increase in posters lately because someone claimed it was easier than the gameaday win.

Nor would I ever highlight that the opening of the most recent win about Trekkies being geeks and Star Wars fans being normal and well adjusted people has been raised here several times, almost word for word by...say...oh I dont know...me? (Star Trek Vs Star Wars - 23/3/01):

"Star Wars Fans: Intelligent, well balanced individuals that remember their childhood being defined by those words scrolling up the screen and being entranced forever. (apart from the Phantom Menace, but not even Star Wars was Star Wars when it 1st came out).

Star Trek Fans: Unhinged, Net obsessed, late-teens to mid-twenties white geekboys unable to form relationships with the opposite sex so they debate who would win? Kirk or the Bald One.

There are marginal fans of each film, those that watch them when they’re on at Xmas and have the videos, and those that dress-up like the characters and attend conventions to get autographs from minor characters that nobody remembers.
However, if you go to conventions dressed like them:
You ARE sad
If you learn Klingon:
You ARE sad
If you buy those technical blueprint books:
You ARE sad

May I suggest you watch Galaxy Quest to see just how seriously people take hardcore sci-fi fans"

And before people start moaning, I've said it before and I'll say it again, I don't care whether I win or not, I have done in the past without meaning to and I'll post long after any offer of free stuff has gone.

So..er..."blah blah blah, it's not fair, I post loads and loads and never seem to win anything...blah blah blah"

Cheers, I'll have The Erotic Witch Project.

Its one of my fave films.

Us Trekkies love having the michael taken if its done well, and GALAXY QUEST was excellent.

I remember seeing it at Harlow Cinema, with about 9 or 10 other people, and thinking "this film deserves a bigger audience". It wasn`t until chatting to others on the now defunct Trek website forum that realised alot more people from the same area had seen it as well.

There was quite a good debate on its merits at the time, but all agreed it was the best satire of Trek in a long while.

Oh, by the way - Trek Captains and humour? check out the forum on here.

No problem mate.

It WAS a good review, I think is deserved to win.
it was just the timing of the thing, following so many other whining fools that cannot write to save their life.
Unlike yourself

However, your review was funny and I enjoyed it.

No offence intended.

Cheers

No offence intended, didn`t mean for my last post to sound like a rant against others, just wanted to put across my reasons for the original topic.

But hey, what a great idea for a new topic: Do Star Trek Captains have a sense of humour???

I did think your reply was not supposed to be taken seriously, but you do put across some valid points which i took note of. Sorry if the review started in a same vein as your earlier topic, is was not the intention to copy anything, we simply read an article in SFX Magazine which had reflected the same view and thought it made a good starting point. But we did not lift the entire review from that mag!.

Oh, and by not taking it any further, what i was saying was i think this topic has run its course now, don`t you? I merely had picked up on others moaning as you had, and thought no one has bothered to asked the question that i did, so i put a topic on there to see what had to be said.
Nothing more, nothing less...!

To be honest, I thought your Galaxy Quest review was good and worth a win. It just happened to be on the same day you complained about certain people winning all the time. Ironic really, but that's the way it goes. I haven't seen Goatboy's original topic he refers to so I am not judging that, although there is a general feeling on this type of thing anyway, so it's bound to crop up again from someone else, even worded similarly.

The problem is that I can't say anything here without anyone reading other things into my post, as I've won before.

My point still stands though, that the posts are mostly chosen on the merits of the content and writing style, which means there will be people who win again over time. But it is also a personal opinion from the people picking the prizes and, according to Tony, partly random at times too! Your winning review emphasises this, it seems to be well written and paragraphed for easy reading.

I dont know, you Trekkies...you'd think they'd have a show where the Captain proved it was ok to have a sense of humour.

I think i should set the record straight.

I did not start my topic "just to try and win", i did it because i had spent a great deal of time reading the forums and had noticed what i thought was a worrying trend. Quite clearly alot of you feel there is nothing wrong and set about having your say. Fair enough.

Now i`m getting the "oh look, he complains and then wins" arguement. This brings me back to my original point - if there`s nothing wrong with the system, how come its suddenly unfair of me to win?

Incidently, check the timings for both this and the Galaxy Quest entry and you`ll see that since i work shifts, this is the first knowledge i`ve had of winning from reading all of your other postings - i did not go straight to the Gameaday/Filmaday winners page!!!. This of course begs the question that if you all claim to post entries without caring if you win or not, they why have you all looked to see who has..??

Also, I did not rip-off ideas from anyone elses postings for this review. In fact it was a joint effort by myself and my best friend Chris. And since he came up with most of the stuff to write, whatever prize i claim will go to him anyway - as agreed before i placed the review in the first place.

Since you all seem to have had something to say about this, then i take it my posting hit a nerve. Suffice it to say i`m not going to take the matter any further. I did point out in my topic that i myself thought my original postings were not up to par and thus actually winning has surprised me, but what i`ve observed over the last month still begged having the question asked. So i did.

Thank you all for the feedback, it was very revealing.

Amen to that.

The point of my post was to highlight a disturbing trend of wingers and complaining newbies that have only been here a matter of days and start with the "I havent won why oh why oh why" and sound like those pompous fools from Points of View.

Frankly, nobody cares if you win or not, it doesn;t matter.

Is this clear enough?
If you feel hard done by that you haven't won free stuff, tough.
That's life

No other forum offers rewards for participating.
deal with it.

um...i post loads and my grammer is topnotch and i try really really hard and its not fair and ive been here ages and everyone else seems to win
i know i've won a few times before but that isnt my point.
i complain, why dont i win for the sake of it
oh go on
pleeeeeeeeeeeeease
