The "General Games Chat" forum, which includes Retro Game Reviews, has been archived and is now read-only. You cannot post here or create a new thread or review on this forum.
That was six months ago. Since then, what's happened?
About 20 new topics are created every day, about two of which are worth reading. Regulars are dropping like flies, and some of the most respected of people on the forum don't come on any more.
In my opinion, the legacy of the FOG's have fallen. We do little more than chat pointlessly now. Even the stories, which have kept me here for the past six months, seem pointless these days.
What used to be a cozy forum, with people coming on and winning games, then leaving, with the handful of regulars who were always guaranteed to turn up every night, has turned into a mass of people, all chattering with no thought for entertainment, with only a good one or two topics every day.
As I join the likes of ssxpro, Wookiee Monster, FantasyMeister, Sniper, by leaving, I make this topic not so I can flatter myself with people telling me not to leave, but I make this topic because it's important that the FOG does not get any more worse than it already is. I hope that by showing people are not interested in the FOG these days, I hope that something can be done to bring the quality of the forums back to the greatness that it once was.
But... I shall not be handing in my resignation as a notable. Make what you want of this, but I have my reasons.
Tony, Sheepy, The Game, Rasta, Edgy, Turbo, Meka, Pb, er-no, Sniper, Venombyte, Rav, Ant, Darkness, Ali, Mouldy Cheese, De Sol, Dan_uk, M16, webmaster, FM, MWA, Goatboy, Wookiee, ssxpro, Shanksy, Reaper, Terry S, Iguana, Bonus, Fogmaster, Your Honour... I bid you all farewell. I hope you can bring to this forum what seems to be missing today.
Ant commented that it is a good idea to actually stay and try to fix the problem than just leave and make it worst.
Also, I agree with Darkness that when I was called a true regular from Grix, it meant so much more as the label we have now.
I am now in two minds weather to leave or not. Now that Ant has said that I could actually be making the situation worse by leaving, I want to stay and try to improve things.
I may do what Time Warp is doing, he is trying his very best to improve the true FOG by posting good gaming topics.
I also liked er-no’s suggestion that there should we a separate forum for the people that made the FOG so good. Maybe the people that made/trying to make the FOG a great place to be rewarded with a forum of their own.
I think we should have the Notables as the admins who have the control of the topics and posts that are on the forum. If people who are not in the special forum try their best, for a long time to improve the FOG, and if the notables improve of them, they can be let into the special forum.
Just an idea.
> I agree with Darkness. Help get the best out of FOG before its too
> late!
lol you can talk!
The only messages I've read from you this last month are saying Pokémon is rubbish just because you say it is!
Now those are pointless messages because no one gets pleasure out of reading something which is a few words long and doesn't have anything to back up the points!
It has been a pleasure reading your topics on here!
I will, and I'm sure all the other REAL regulars will do their best to restore order to the chaos that is now FOG.
Hopefully you'll return to see a brilliant restored quality Future of Gaming forum with plenty of good topics and less of those pointless topics.
Good luck to whatever you decide to do instead of coming on here!
> FOG without Grix? It doesn’t bare thinking about really, does

Only Grix knows what is best for him to do, but I see it as
> Grix going on a strike. Maybe people will realise that the situation

I was very, very surprised when I saw this topic, and I

I don’t think that anything we say will

Since day one on the Future Of

I have not been on here as long as Grix

As I admire

Maybe, I

Thank you Grix Thraves, ssxpro, Wookiee Monster,
> FantasyMeister and Sniper for inspiring me to do what is best for
> the FOG, it just goes to show that you are all very special.
This

Ditto. I have only been here for 30 days (I think), and I do agree that each day here has gotten a little worse. When I first joined the posts then were good, not too many, each concisly written to top quality. I'd love to imagine what it was like around the November - December time Grix was mentioning.
It's true. The forums have been beaten by their own popularity. Too many people are here now, including myself. Its going to be a shame that the top, well respected, intelligent posters such as Grix, Wookiee, and FM plus more arn't going to be here anymore. They were the best and shall remain the best. No one could ever take their place - it cant be done.
I wish all of the leavers a happy goodbye. And I hope you might come back within time, when the forums hopefully change. All of the leavers have made an impact on SR, and where will they go now?
Thanks for being here,
Swish
I think one of the things responsible is the ratings system.
Back in the old days, I can remember my great feeling of joy when the great Grix Thraves said, "Darkness, you are now looked upon as a regualar". Back in those days, you had to be respected and post good stuff to be a 'regular'. Now it is just a symbol of how many words you have posted.
I know I am not the greatest person for ignoring rubbish threads, and creating good ones, but I do want to help return it to its greatness.
I would also like to ask SR to help. This may be unlikely, because if you think about it, the forums are a way of getting people to spend their money at SR. The quality of the content does no matter to their pockets. But if you can find it in your hearts, please help us. . . sob . .
It does seem FOG has been getting too busy lately, and no offence to any newbies, but it does seem the best days where at the end of 2000.
I'll be staying for the moment, as I still enjoy writing on here.
Hopefully the FOG will return to what it what was like 'in the old days', and this is why I am not leaving. I think there's more point in staying, and trying to make the forums better, than just leaving.
Oh well, see ya later Grix, it's been great having you on the forums.
Thanks for reading, Ant.
